Pros
The work is math based and gives you a sense of accomplishment when the desired results are achieved. Managers are full of praise and are very helpful.
Cons
Working 12hrs can be hard. You are also standing on you feet most of the day.
Advice to Senior Management
na
Pros
The work was what you made of it and they encourage you to push yourself. As in all semiconductor manufacturing, it does come with stress in a face paced environment but they would reward effort.
Cons
24x7 responsibility, poor managment communication between Germany and US. Infineon was also greedy when it refused to sell the North America site. It doesn't matter because they are done.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't be in management as you caused our site to fail.
Pros
Great benefits and vacation package.
Cons
If you are a hard worker, the management team will utilize your talents. However, they don't hold under performers accountable. There is a lot managers who don't have leadership and technical skills to be successful in the marketplace.
Advice to Senior Management
Hold every one accountable managers as well as individual contributors.
Pros
Decent information sharing, and opportunity to learn what you wanted from various sources of people there. Also opportunity to change job roles and goto other areas if there was an opening. I really liked working there. Generally most people engineering, manufacturing or technician seem happy until the last 6-10 months before closing.
Cons
Hmmm... no one seem to take the hint that things were really bad. I think some of the mid management convinced themselves that things would pick back up. The high level management on site should have taken care of their people better, but I'm willing to bet that they might have got their pockets padded from Germany HQ.
Advice to Senior Management
Since they are no longer there. This advice is to all high level management, take care of your workers more and not stock holders and things will be better in the long run.
Pros
Good exposure to semiconductor manufacturing as this is a copy exact facility. Opportunities in improving manufacturing are abundant.
Cons
Poor Leadership. Can't even copy processes from R&D sites without messing up.
Senior management were made up of great engineers but are not good managers. You can get fired for thinking out of the box and challenging management's infinite wisdom.
Advice to Senior Management
Jump off a cliff.
Pros
Qimonda Germany is a Great place to work. Easy going people and life style. Qimonda paid the best salary in germany. Technical competance of people was very high. Smart people but not too hardworking.
Cons
Poor management decisions. Better management decision would have saved the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Save cash. Dont spend cash too much.
Pros
They paid me for the first 9 years,
Cons
They shut the doors and gave me (and about 1000 other people) 45 minutes to leave with no benefits, no severance, nothing.
Advice to Senior Management
Next time, don't let the company crumble under your watch
Pros
Good benefits, decent work schedule
Cons
They couldn't stay in business
Advice to Senior Management
Cronyism leads to no good
Pros
Engineering was passionate about the work but was strangled by red tape and outside (Qimonda Dresden) issues that impeded speed and efectiveness of process changes and troubleshooting.
Cons
Semiconductor manufacturing needs 90% engineering support and only 10% administrative BS so that the product quality comes first, not the quantity. High numbers on a daily WIP Turn chart don't mean anything when product is scrap by time it hits yield.
Advice to Senior Management
Support, guidance, and pro-active...not reactive and pointing finger at others. Oh yea, Kin Wah Loh was very demeaning to Richmond, yes we were in bad shape, but kickin us while down didn't help get us back in the game.
Pros
Good people who cared about each other and did good work. Good pay and benefits, some room for career growth and challenges.
Cons
German management did not do a good job of keeping employees informed about what was happening with the company. Germany interfered too much with the management and operations of the US companies. Too slow to keep up with the technology shrinks, and lagged behind competitors. Did not make the hard choices to reduce costs.
Advice to Senior Management
Thanks for an interesting experience, and good luck with your future careers! I think US management should have done a better job of getting the true information from Germany and sharing it with the employees.
