A death-spiral crashing into the ground

Process Engineer (Former Employee)
Sandston, VA

I worked at Qimonda * full-time for more than 10 years

ProsCutting edge technology in 300mm facility, excellent health benefits and PTO policy. A fair amount of movement was possible for most employees.

ConsOther than bankruptcy, um... oh wait, the successes we had in 300mm factory were not because of the MES system, the successes were in SPITE of the Qimonda/Infineon built MES system. It was terrible.

Advice to Senior ManagementGood luck with your next train wreck - wherever it may be.

ProsGood Benefits, 401K matching, etc.
Best paying job I've had so far
Opportunities for advancement when you start at the bottom

ConsA lot of the opportunities for advancement depended on who you knew.
Bad communication as far as the shutdown went.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter communication and honesty would have helped.
Advancement opportunities should be based more on ability and job performance instead of who you know.

It was great while it lasted. Unfortunately shut down.

Engineering Equipment Technician (Former Employee)
Richmond, VA

I worked at Qimonda *

ProsIt was satisfying work with a sense of accomplishment. Great team members. Great pay and benefits. Unfortunately the company went bankrupt in 2009.

ConsThe only downside to my specific job was working on the GPD tools and having to clean the inorganic arsenic material. Was hazardous, but always approached it with a safe mindset.

Advice to Senior ManagementWell, I suppose there is no advice to give the management of Qimonda now since they have shut down and laid off 4000 employees.
