Former Employee – worked at QuEST Global (Connecticut) as a contractor for less than a year

ProsSubsidiaries of United Technologies was outsourcing a lot of jobs to QuEST during the economic downturn. This temporary job allowed me to gain experience until I found a full time position with a different company.

ConsTheir compensation was about 30 - 40% less than industry standard and they had very little benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay your employees competitively and they might stay.

ProsFlexible schedule is nice. You are obligated to be there from 9-3, so you can go in early or go in at 9, whatever you prefer. Also, if "doing nothing" all day is your style of work, this job will suite that desire.

ConsThe pay is well below the mean for a project engineer. You are really nothing more than a data entry worker; which, in my opinion, is a degrading feeling when I've graduated college and gotten an engineering degree.

There are no paid holiday's. The 10 vacation days must be applied to the holiday closures and furlough time. Don't get sick and don't make plans for a vacation.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay your people more. Give them more responsibilities. Make them feel less like invalids and more like engineers.

Current Employee – been working at QuEST Global (Connecticut)

Pros- Relatively easy to get a job here.
- Some of the projects can be interesting.
- May see some cutting edge technology being developed.
- Flexible hours.
- Larger office with more people to socialize with.
- Good resume builder.
- Good equipment to work with (nice computer, dual monitors, local and network cluster, etc.)
- Spacious cubicles.
- Benefits are about average.
- Vacation relatively easy to take.

ConsBiggest down side- there are a lot of down sides.
The work itself:
- Can get very repetitive (turbine blades all look the same).
- Analysis only job: customer does the design, you plug it in and show them the results.
- Work breakdown: 50% PowerPoint creation, 30% filling out forms/checklists/reviews, 20% engineering
- Collaboration, teamwork, and knowledge expansion is mostly frowned upon.

Company:
- Contract-based company: every hour worked must be billed or you won't be paid. If work goes over budget (due to poor leadership, organisation, customer interaction, etc.) engineers are still expected to catch up (unpaid) on work.
- Budget for training is non-existent.
- Pay is very low when comparing experience/degree with other similar positions.
- Structure, titles, organization frequently changes.
- Company is largely run by India. Excessive grammatically incorrect communications of all mediums is sent to the employees.
- HR communication is poor; any request takes over a week before a reply is received, as everything must route through an Indian representative.

Other:
- Company morals/ethics very low. Managers are profit driven and will put deadlines/customer demands above all morals. Quality of work suffers and mistakes are frequently encountered.
- Managers have no management background and perform interpersonal duties poorly. Most managers at Quest are Aero-thermal/Project Engineers that have reached the "length of service required" to be a manager, and are therefore promoted.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunication is very poor and senior management seems oblivious to what happens "in the trenches."
One would think that seeing so many people leave and having such low scores on employee "engagement" that something is awry.

ProsEasy and fast induction program. IT support is great. Good to work here, but just for career development

ConsThey do not diversify, just provide services to GE energy. Management is not communicating well and their quality program is just being implemented with efforts.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove communication with employees.
