I have been working at Quaker Steak & Lube full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

You can make great money with this brand if you complete your shift with a positive attitude and make a solid effort to have fun. There are so many events during the summer that it is almost impossible to not make good money.

    Cons

Winters are dreadful, I believe people think that it is closed during the winter so the business level cuts down to like a 4th of the summer business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like the adults that they are, not like children. Have faith that your employees are capable of doing their job, and let them show you that they can do it... don't think they can't. have faith.

I worked at Quaker Steak & Lube full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The guests and employees make it a great place to eat, drink, and enjoy some great company. I made pretty good money and had a passion to come to work. I had set regulars that visited daily and or weekly to see me specifically. My co workers and I made the time that we spent together enjoyable and fun to work. The crew stayed fairly consistent over the months that I worked there. The guest enjoyed the crew and we all knew each other by name and even spent time outside of work together.

    Cons

The business wasn't ready for outdoor winter time business and employees suffered. I worked outside for the majority of the winter and when I complained to management about where I was scheduled (outside) there was never an attempt to change my placement. When it was 15 degrees outside and there is no attempt or at least safe attempt to keep warm... it is going to be hard to make money or to show guests that you aren't miserable. After quitting... the question was brought up as to why I left, it was explained. They asked why i didn't say anything. I had spoken to several managers about my placement and nothing was ever done about it. Although things seemed to run fairly smooth, behind the scenes there wasn't a sense of put togetherness. It was a mess and the management at the time had a lot to do with it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Happy employees mean happy guest. You can follow corporate rules and still have a good time. Know what you're doing and do it. Love what you do... don't just do it for the check.

I have been working at Quaker Steak & Lube

    Pros

Friendly coworkers, invested management, great regulars. The events in the summer are awesome. They provide a space to help organizations raise thousands of dollars for various charities.

    Cons

The building is old, it could use a "pick me up" of most of it's components required to function

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ask your employees opinion on things. You see things they don't, but we also see things that you don't.

I worked at Quaker Steak & Lube part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    great food,
    wonderful customers
loved interacting with people throughout my shifts on the weekends and enjoyed having regulars return to see me :)

    Cons

management had no idea how to run a business
too many workers coming and going while on the clock (to shop, go buy food, etc)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good look into your stores from time to time and ask the customers for feedback about the employees. Many of the things going on inside are far worse than they appear.

    Pros

Customer satisfaction was a high priority

    Cons

Tip checks were almost never on time
Tip check days were always being moved to a different time of week
    Apathy from staff
Franchise owner was cheap and not really looking for the best solutions, just the cheapest.
