Surrounded by smart people

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Santa Clara, CA

I have been working at Qualcomm CDMA

ProsAlways learning from people around you; management makes (mostly) smart decisions; can get a lot done in a short period of time.

Constough to stand out from the crowd; stock has been stuck at 50 for years; pay is below industry standard; CDMA Technologies is the "slave pit" of QC.

Overall it has been a rewarding experience for those who are willing to go the extra mile.

Senior Staff Engineer (Current Employee)
San Diego, CA

I have been working at Qualcomm CDMA

ProsMany opportunities to work on latest technology.
Working hours are somewhat flexible.
Generally, it is a collaborative culture.
Many graduate classes offered on campus.
Competitive compensation when considering stock compensation .
San Diego is a nice area.

ConsCost of living in San Diego (California) is high.
Too many meetings, and several after hours meetings
Several layers of management.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should do whatever it takes to retain high performing, sharp employees.
Stick to what Qualcomm does best, drive the technology instead of just following the trend/customers. Take risks.

Excellent place to work but not as good as it used to be

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
San Diego, CA

I have been working at Qualcomm CDMA

ProsGood support from management that allows engineers to follow up on items deemed important. Qualcomm also allows a flexible schedule as long as your work is completed on time.

ConsA lot of the perks which used to be in place which made Qualcomm such a fun place to work have gone away.
Many engineers at Qualcomm work well beyond the standard 40 hour work week and that is what is expected of engineers in order to get ahead.

Lot of work to do. But political

Software Engineer (Current Employee)
San Diego, CA

I have been working at Qualcomm CDMA

ProsQCT has one of the best health benefit. Good RSU bonus.
There are lots of work to do and you can learn from them.

Consyou need to be political to promote and be recognized
Be ready to work at home during night time.
Not easy to balance between work life and personal life

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease don't evaluate engineers by their e-mails and words but by their work, results, and maturity. Need to remove political culture.

Lot of work and sometime redundant work, always fire fighting mode

Director, Engineering (Current Employee)
San Diego, CA

I have been working at Qualcomm CDMA

ProsGood technical talent and cutting edge technology, fast paced and folks take pride in their accomplishments. Decent work life balance and lot of training courses for internal training.

ConsLow growth opportunities, politics and favoritism, management not focussed on employees growth and creating new challenges.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake necessary changes in management to align the teams to achieve the goals, listen to employees at all levels and encourage an open culture for new ideas and improving things. Reduce politics and buddy system, find the true performances and value creators and reward them. Management shouldn't reward fire fighting or senior management whose style is just yelling and screaming....
