    Good people, good technology

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsQualcomm is correctly seen as the leading company in wireless. I get to work with smart people. Benefits are good.

ConsCompany is big. Not clear why some parts comtinue to do what they do. Changes have come recently to cut down on waste of resources.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink carefully about what the next big thing will be when the current money-making businesses slow down. Look to leverage Qualcomm's strength. Easy to say but very hard to do at the scale needed to remain the pre-eminent mobile technology company.

Very solid company with great benefits

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    San Diego, CA

ProsExcellent infrastructure (IT helpdesk, Intranet, Wifi, etc.).
Excellent benefits (fully paid healthcare, fitness centers, cafeteria, office for most employees).
    Very good executive management.
    Strong focus on technology innovation.

ConsLack of regular communication between management and employees regarding changes in priorities and strategy (specifically within a division or business unit).

Advice to Senior ManagementRequire quarterly or monthly all hands within each division so that all employees understand the current progress on business objectives and next steps.

    Poor management breeds discontent

    Senior Systems Analyst (Former Employee)
    San Diego, CA

ProsThe company has some great programs to help employees advance their own skill sets. The benefits package is nice but is not that much better than other major firms.

ConsThe review process is a joke. It happens twice a year and is just a way for employees to bash each other anonymously. Management would rather pit workers against each other than actually manage their employees. Expect a management re-org at least every three months. Execution of any idea there is almost non-existent. It may have been a good company at one point but it's definitely going down the tubes. For proof of that look at their stock price.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide real leadership instead of stating that you understand behavioral management. Your utter lack of the ability to actually lead and make informed and rational decisions is scary at best.

    Staff Engineer (Current Employee)
    San Diego, CA

ProsCompensation is very good compared to other companies. Good benefits...
Lot of chances to switch between divisions.

ConsNo work/life balance. Very long hours without any need. Lot of internal politics.
Unnecessarily management takes a long time to allow engineers to switch between teams

Advice to Senior ManagementDo something with the MediaFLO.. whats happening there.
Lot of management changes with in a short period of time. Need good upper management to clean up the MediaFLO mess

    OK

    Test Engineer (Current Employee)
    San Diego, CA

ProsFriendly people to work with, great entry level opportunity, fitness classes are good, lots of team work, some appreciation shown by mentors.

ConsHard to advance in one's career due to internal transfer policies, slow to promote, need to threaten to leave employment to advance.

Advice to Senior ManagementMicromanagement and accountability of works is not an incentive to go the extra mile. Qualcomm is not innovative in its technology as it used to be.

Still a good place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    San Diego, CA

ProsBenefits but not stocks. Still a solid company with lots of money in the bank to survive for the next crisis.

Consnot the best salary in the industry. Too much politics to benefit friends and not exactly competent people.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo less politics. Listen to customers and sales instead of leave engineering taking the decisions and develop what they want but not what the customers want. Focus is core business not in the service business since Qualcomm doesn't have competence to act in this segment supporting below average management in these divisions and keep loosing money.
