    Pros

Get to explore a lot of things. Best health insurance. Lot of intangible perks and benefits. Working as a HW applications engineer in the Customer Engineering group, there is a good balance between work and life.

    Cons

Lot of work to do. You will never have no work to do. I thoroughly enjoy the company

    I worked at Qualcomm full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, very smart people, tons of training, consistently rated a top company to work for in the US.

    Cons

Qualcomm continues to shed its business units not related to the chipset division. Omnitracs is one such example. The business was profitable and was the founding business unit of the company, yet it was sold off to a private equity firm, leaving hundreds of employees having to make the choice to move to Dallas with the new owner, or to find another place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think about employees before selling off profitable business units to companies that are going to relocate. There have been multiple business launched by Qualcomm that have lost hundreds of millions of dollars, yet are kept, so why sell off a profitable business unit?

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Upper management keeps employees informed on business direction and expectations. On site activities; gym, educational, fun and team building activities

    Cons

Lack of opportunities to shine and contribute outside an extremely small focus. Departments and people within departments are extremely silioed and disjointed leading to duplication of efforts or loss opportunities. People tend to focus on their narrow perceptive versus optimizing as a whole. Too much reliance on outside consultants. People too concerned and focused with trying to keep job. This is very negative for a company with growing revenue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look into why employee turnover exceeds 60% within department

I worked at Qualcomm full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Talented staff, great learning programs and resources, top compensation levels, opportunity to impact billions of lives through the technology

    Cons

Top heavy with too many 1) males, 2) engineers, 3) senior titles. Currently undergoing a cull to protect net income figures. Too centralised in San Diego - all other sites/employees are low on priority. Too much politics originating from senior VP's being there since the beginning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in employees with more diverse backgrounds than engineering/finance/law, otherwise you risk losing your creative/innovative dna. Time to grow up from being a family firm to being a truly global company.
