I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work is okay. Nothing too complicated. Some pride in seeing phones fitted with qcom chipsets out on the street. San Diego is a great city to be in.

    Cons

Fire fighting not fire proofing. Middle management layer seems to be increasing. Tends to be focused on short term fixes. I am amused to see how qcom always makes it to the top twenty companies to work for according to glassdoor. Which divisions do you check?

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I've had the pleasure of working with Qualcomm for 5+ years. I love the Q and all the great people who work here. The benefits, bonus structure and 401 k structure cannot be beat. You pay literally nothing out of your check. The ESPP (for employees) is another great benefit to invest money with a quick return. Great visibility to upper management and opportunity to travel globally. Qualcomm lIves Up To its Ranking in top companies to work for.

    Cons

Hard to get a higher base line salary increase with new merit system. Company is restructuring some of the perks for cost cutting measures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to manage up and communicate with your manager. If you have the talent they will want to keep you.

I worked at Qualcomm as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

This company is very organized in project planning, team coordination to support the various objectives, and allocating technical resources to each team. The different RF IC functional blocks, such as RX, TX, synth, and reliability, are dynamically assigned reasonable resources and time to complete. Team leads are competent technically and lead well.

    Cons

The position that coordinates test instruction between Product Design and Production Test overlaps shift changes and often requires long hours to cover morning and evening, and weekends. Not technically challenging, so difficult to develop new skills the company needs to value you as a keeper.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the company policy to allow managers to keep temp employees indefinitely, and make a path to a permanent position.
