    Pros

Fast growing, cutting edge technology, great benefits

    Cons

Great leadership, but too many layers. Very hierarchical. Not much options for individual contributors not interested in management tracks. Main business focus is in San Diego and for CDMA technologies. Struggles with global organization structure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More choices for employees to grow laterally. Way too hierarchical and inflexible compared to Silicon Valley companies. Long term employees are good in one way, but are bad that they know only one way to do things. Innovation will be thwarted if status quo is the primary goal. Focus on fresh new ways of doing things and thinking outside the box at all levels.

    Pros

    Great work culture
Amazing intern benefits (housing, relocation, paid trip to San Diego, SF Giants game)
    Good work-life balance
Excellent period for the company growth-wise

    Cons

My original intern project was well-planned out but once my mentor quit, I was re-assigned. So project given is hit and miss.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good starting point for career in Silicon Valley

Current Employee - Senior Software Engineer  in  San Jose, CA
Current Employee - Senior Software Engineer in San Jose, CA

    Pros

    - Qualcomm has some cool hardware teams in Silicon Valley.
    - Can be a great place to pick up some embedded software or test engineering skills.
    - Good work-life balance
    - Free drinks/sodas

    Cons

    - Not as many opportunities as San Diego HQ
    - Feels like projects in the Bay Area are treated as experimental, and HQ is fine cutting entire teams/divisions
    - Takes a little too long to get promoted. Some employees deserve a promotion at least a year before it finally happens.
    - Salary is noticeably less than similar companies nearby, but Qualcomm's health, bonuses, and RSU program outweigh most companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are tons of amazing companies for software engineers in Silicon Valley. There needs to be more reasons for software engineers to choose Qualcomm over other companies. Qualcomm's benefits are great, but not as appealing to young talent as the perks/benefits of other companies in the area.

Qualcomm's is working on some very innovative and exciting projects in the Bay Area. Why not give employees more of an exciting environment and culture, similar to nearby startups? Qualcomm's buildings feel too corporate for this region.

    Pros

Excellent RSUs, bonus, health plan and vacation time. Average base salary. QCOM offers engineers the opportunity to work on a variety of technologies.

    Cons

Many old timers promoted to managerial positions lack planning /leadership skills. Daily status meetings (mornings, evenings and weekends) makes work/life integration difficult. Too many processes negatively impact the execution of the projects in a very competitive market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mergers and aquisuitions should be followed by a good integration strategy. Consider promoting people with both technical and leadership skills to managerial positions

    Pros

Offer internal online courses for employees to keep up w/programs, regulations and/or learn new programs.

    Cons

Acquisitions happen left and right which is great for the company but bad for current employees. New management often has no real experience and are put in management roles above those that should be managers. Unfortunately, this is how departments quickly go down hill and sometimes get eliminated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote those that fit the role not those that just talk about being great. If they can't even do what they ask their team to do then demote and put someone in place that can take the team to the next level.
