    Solid Company. Good Environment

I have been working at Qualcomm as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Great growth opportunity and work environment. The company sponsors many internal learning and training sessions to learn both internal infrastructures and useful skills that can be used outside the company.

    Cons

Feels like a big company. Hard to move up or around and big company bureaucracy is widely prevalent. Time commitment is extremely large as well. Most employees work long hours after going home.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits, decent work like balance provided you work at the San Diego location as all the interesting work happens there. Other centers are treated as satellite sites to aid the main team. Also, folks are more interested in getting promotions than doing any original work. If you do not join the right team with the right designation, you are in for a tough experience.

    Cons

Too much of middle management which has taken focus away from engineering culture. The company needs to get back to the philosophy it started with

I worked at Qualcomm full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent RSUs, bonus, health plan and vacation time. Average base salary. QCOM offers engineers the opportunity to work on a variety of technologies.

    Cons

Many old timers promoted to managerial positions lack planning /leadership skills. Daily status meetings (mornings, evenings and weekends) makes work/life integration difficult. Too many processes negatively impact the execution of the projects in a very competitive market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mergers and aquisuitions should be followed by a good integration strategy. Consider promoting people with both technical and leadership skills to managerial positions

I worked at Qualcomm full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Offer internal online courses for employees to keep up w/programs, regulations and/or learn new programs.

    Cons

Acquisitions happen left and right which is great for the company but bad for current employees. New management often has no real experience and are put in management roles above those that should be managers. Unfortunately, this is how departments quickly go down hill and sometimes get eliminated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote those that fit the role not those that just talk about being great. If they can't even do what they ask their team to do then demote and put someone in place that can take the team to the next level.

I have been working at Qualcomm full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Working on cutting edge solutions for wireless communications. There is no shortage of interesting current/future projects. Upper management genuinely wants employees to achieve a healthy work-life balance (though some project leads may not).

    Cons

Things aren't nearly as efficient as they could be (e.g. too many meetings). There is a wide range of managers - some are the best I have/ever will work with, others are blatant deadwood who take no responsibility for issues but claim all the credit for when things go well.
