I have been working at Quanta Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Freedom to be able to do your job how you wanted and when as long as it was done correctly.

I really liked the managers I had they were just in over their head and didn't have enough experience in the field.

    Cons

Company was very disorganized and had management that where managing departments they didn't know in depth about.

Changed the vacation policy all the time and actually changed it and took a week vacation from a lot of people.

Extremely cheap and didn't want to invest in employees unless the utility company they were contracted for forced them too.

    Pros

    Good Pay and nice co-workers

    Cons

Everyone is overworked and stressed all of the time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Flexible work hours for ALL employees. More commuication between department heads directly with the worker bees and not filtered through their managers.

I have been working at Quanta Services

    Pros

Good pay, good bonuses, if you are just here for the money and can put up with lots and lots of BS, then this is the place to work till retirement. Very nice headquarter office, although some cubicles are placed next to the exit stairs where the noise could be unbearable sometimes. Management are flexible with hours worked, as long as work get done. Great medical plan, they pay 100% for employees.

For someone who just started their careers, put up with their BS and you'll learn more in a year than anywhere else you could ever been.

    Cons

Lots of politics - almost all people (not only management, but including staffs) are very aggressive, no team work or family feel atmosphere here at all. Everyone tries to outshine one another. Lots of conflicts and frustrations due to crazy workload.

The company structure is outdated. The system is completely decentralized, every single operating unit run their own business, which makes it super challenging for compliance control, communication with the units sometimes could be tough since they will ignore most of the time. Hence work never ever gets done like scheduled.

Benefits aren't competitive. Had to wait a year to enroll in 401(k) and to receive matching. Waiting period for benefits is 60 days, but if you start in the beginning of the month, you have to wait till the first day of the month, so it could be as long as 90 days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider clean up your own department, make sure employees work as a team, communicate effectively, don't make empty promises. Understand your employees' concerns.

I have been working at Quanta Services full-time

    Pros

The people at Quanta are great, and there's definitely a team mentality. The company's performance and growth is very strong, and there are always new and interesting projects to work on. Upper management is committed to providing necessary resources to the various departments to ensure people have the tools they need to succeed. The company has also recently updated the bonus program to focus more on individual and department performance, rather than overall company performance.

    Cons

Paid time off is limited to two weeks. The financial reporting system is a bit outdated, although there is a plan in place to upgrade soon.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should consider giving more flexibility to each department to manage their own time off and flexible work arrangement policies. Annual employee reviews, along with employee satisfaction surveys and anonymous feedback might also help decrease turnover.

I worked at Quanta Services full-time

    Pros

Salary and bonus is decent. They order lunch and dinner for staff during quarter closes. Good place for quick experience, then move on.

    Cons

Expected overtime even if no work is needed. Lots of politics. Not family oriented. Turn over is high in certain departments (about a year or two). You need thick skin to work here due to tempers of senior management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value employees time. Give more positive and constructive criticisms to let employees know how they are doing.

I worked at Quanta Services full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Quanta Services does provide free lunches during quarterly close. They also have 10-20% bonuses for most roles or positions.

    Cons

Quanta Services will work employees on holidays, weekends, and late into the evenings. Parking spots in the Williams Tower Parking Garage are difficult to find since maximum capacity has been reached (except for the reserved parking spots). If you are working a late shift, you will have to park in the Galleria Mall Parking Garage (if you can find a spot there). There is no flexibility to work remotely/virtually or flex schedules. PTO does not carry over to the next year. If you do not use it, you lose it. They move employees up from two weeks of vacation to three weeks of vacation after 10 years of service. The waiting period for the 401k is one year. There are not any structured career paths or any opportunity for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop and adhere to a quantifiable plan to stabilize the relationship and strength between the technical environments/platforms and the number of operating units (clients) the organization supports/acquires. Invest more in technical tools that will eliminate manual processes and dependence on MS Excel work. Begin a or any technical implementation and follow through with it. Stop promising dates for an implementation and finding any reason to postpone it. If necessary, move to an Agile-Scrum methodology. Relocate the physical office to a place that has capacity and opportunity to grow (not New York City). Offer a tiered approach to increasing PTO like most other companies do.

I have been working at Quanta Services full-time

    Pros

The company itself has strong prospects and there are some solid people working in the office.

    Cons

Constant switching of goals, often requiring complete scrapping of work already completed. Very little effort to plan ahead or even manage the workload. Management fond of telling executives "Yes!" without considering feasibility, leading to absolute chaos at the staff level. You will work weekends and evenings repeatedly, even outside of the core times they tell you to expect it. And most of the that extra time is wasted, chasing the latest priority while you allow your core responsibilities to languish and degrade. An utter mess.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look for areas of high turnover and consider cleaning out the management in those areas. People are fleeing corporate for entity positions or quitting the company because of the character of their supervisors.

    Pros

Great people to work with but little chance for advancement

    Cons

No work life balance. Had to work 6 and 7 days a week for almost 2 years with no consideration. Middle management will hang you out to dry.
They will cut you loose when you turn 60.

I worked at Quanta Services full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Quanta Services was located in the Galleria area that has alot of places to shop around it. They did give bonuses in an attempt to decrease the high turnover ratio.

    Cons

Written and verbal communication did not exist. The security for the building did not include any turn pikes which encourages piggy backers. Leadership did not encourage feedback or transparency. Foresight and expectations for large projects did not exist. The hours were extremely long (16 hours days are fairly common) and extend into the weekend. Quality of work was never a priority. The only time executives are seen is occasionally in an elevator. Promotions only take place when someone retires.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would send out an employee engagement survey to establish a baseline. The other option is to wait and see how high the turnover ratio will get (more reactive than proactive).

I have been working at Quanta Services full-time

    Pros

Salaries and bonuses are very strong. Top management is genuinely nice.

    Cons

Very poor work/life balance. Hours are very long for middle management (10-11 hours per day). Vacation is limited to 2 weeks per year for everyone for the first 10 years. While schedule flexibility is preached, it does not seem to really happen. What I saw as legitimate requests for time off were routinely denied. Very low tolerance for errors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that most employees will not stay long-term unless they see better work/life balance.
