    Great growth opportunity, challenging work

ProsThe people at Quanta are great, and there's definitely a team mentality. The company's performance and growth is very strong, and there are always new and interesting projects to work on. Upper management is committed to providing necessary resources to the various departments to ensure people have the tools they need to succeed. The company has also recently updated the bonus program to focus more on individual and department performance, rather than overall company performance.

ConsPaid time off is limited to two weeks. The financial reporting system is a bit outdated, although there is a plan in place to upgrade soon.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should consider giving more flexibility to each department to manage their own time off and flexible work arrangement policies. Annual employee reviews, along with employee satisfaction surveys and anonymous feedback might also help decrease turnover.

Politics and lots of pointless overtime

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSalary and bonus is decent. They order lunch and dinner for staff during quarter closes. Good place for quick experience, then move on.

ConsExpected overtime even if no work is needed. Lots of politics. Not family oriented. Turn over is high in certain departments (about a year or two). You need thick skin to work here due to tempers of senior management.

Advice to Senior ManagementValue employees time. Give more positive and constructive criticisms to let employees know how they are doing.

    Traditional/Old-Fashioned

ProsQuanta Services does provide free lunches during quarterly close. They also have 10-20% bonuses for most roles or positions.

ConsQuanta Services will work employees on holidays, weekends, and late into the evenings. Parking spots in the Williams Tower Parking Garage are difficult to find since maximum capacity has been reached (except for the reserved parking spots). If you are working a late shift, you will have to park in the Galleria Mall Parking Garage (if you can find a spot there). There is no flexibility to work remotely/virtually or flex schedules. PTO does not carry over to the next year. If you do not use it, you lose it. They move employees up from two weeks of vacation to three weeks of vacation after 10 years of service. The waiting period for the 401k is one year. There are not any structured career paths or any opportunity for advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop and adhere to a quantifiable plan to stabilize the relationship and strength between the technical environments/platforms and the number of operating units (clients) the organization supports/acquires. Invest more in technical tools that will eliminate manual processes and dependence on MS Excel work. Begin a or any technical implementation and follow through with it. Stop promising dates for an implementation and finding any reason to postpone it. If necessary, move to an Agile-Scrum methodology. Relocate the physical office to a place that has capacity and opportunity to grow (not New York City). Offer a tiered approach to increasing PTO like most other companies do.

    Leadership Lacking, Disorganized Fire Fighting

    Accounting (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsThe company itself has strong prospects and there are some solid people working in the office.

ConsConstant switching of goals, often requiring complete scrapping of work already completed. Very little effort to plan ahead or even manage the workload. Management fond of telling executives "Yes!" without considering feasibility, leading to absolute chaos at the staff level. You will work weekends and evenings repeatedly, even outside of the core times they tell you to expect it. And most of the that extra time is wasted, chasing the latest priority while you allow your core responsibilities to languish and degrade. An utter mess.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook for areas of high turnover and consider cleaning out the management in those areas. People are fleeing corporate for entity positions or quitting the company because of the character of their supervisors.

    Management Team needs some work

ProsGreat people to work with but little chance for advancement

ConsNo work life balance. Had to work 6 and 7 days a week for almost 2 years with no consideration. Middle management will hang you out to dry.
They will cut you loose when you turn 60.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrust your people.

    Unorganized Chaos & Absent Leadership

    Employee (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsQuanta Services was located in the Galleria area that has alot of places to shop around it. They did give bonuses in an attempt to decrease the high turnover ratio.

ConsWritten and verbal communication did not exist. The security for the building did not include any turn pikes which encourages piggy backers. Leadership did not encourage feedback or transparency. Foresight and expectations for large projects did not exist. The hours were extremely long (16 hours days are fairly common) and extend into the weekend. Quality of work was never a priority. The only time executives are seen is occasionally in an elevator. Promotions only take place when someone retires.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would send out an employee engagement survey to establish a baseline. The other option is to wait and see how high the turnover ratio will get (more reactive than proactive).

Great pay, but very long hours

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsSalaries and bonuses are very strong. Top management is genuinely nice.

ConsVery poor work/life balance. Hours are very long for middle management (10-11 hours per day). Vacation is limited to 2 weeks per year for everyone for the first 10 years. While schedule flexibility is preached, it does not seem to really happen. What I saw as legitimate requests for time off were routinely denied. Very low tolerance for errors.

Advice to Senior ManagementRealize that most employees will not stay long-term unless they see better work/life balance.

Prosfree employee only health and dental coverage. they provide free cokes in the refrigerators and sometimes buy lunch for everyone.

Conslarge bonues create division between team members and drive 11 or 12 hour days. It is a good place to gain the world and loose your soul.

Advice to Senior Managementfollow through on expectations and promises and don't use employees like objects to drive large bonuses.

    Stepping Stone

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsThey provide free lunch sometimes and are close to the Galleria if you enjoy shopping. They are located in the Williams Tower which provides a nice view of the area.

ConsThere were not any name plates for any of the offices or cubicals. I didn't see any organizational chart or structure when I was there. Requests frequently came from upper management with unrealistic deadlines. Life work balance was heavy on the work side (weekends and late nights). Vacation time was limited to two weeks a year.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your employees by not burning through them in a couple years.
