I have been working at Queensland Health part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people. Flexible rostering suits my family and I can pick up extra shifts when work needs me

    Cons

Sometimes left short staffed when unable to fill gaps

I have been working at Queensland Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The majority are great dedicated staff, progressive ideas, supportive for career development and training. Lots of exciting local developments plus federal health / ageing / disability changes means that its a dynamic field to work in. The care provided to QLDers is first class when the budget allows....

    Cons

As always in health, we could do with more resources - staff, money, rooms etc. Sometimes its difficult to meet "gold standard" care, perform research and train students within resource limitations

    Advice to Management

Need to decide where QH is aiming - top or middle quality - then fund appropriately. Obviously we can't meet all needs of all people, as its too expensive, and so private health needs to step up with their services too

The are no downsides to working for Queensland health that I can think of. It gives me enough time to work, study and maintain a social life.

    Pros

I love working for Queensland Health as it gives me the ability to help the community even if it's not direct assistance I know what I do, helps provide revenue which in turn helps provide more services for the community at large.

    Cons

The hospital with which I work doesn't receive enough funding for the vital services the community needs. There always cutting money back and trying to get you to work within less money every year. It's just not patient care at it's best in regards to that.

    Advice to Management

Spread the budget even not to the bigger hospitals. Smaller ones need money too.

I have been working at Queensland Health full-time

    Pros

Allows for advanced practice to support and encourage nursing staff and teams to develop. Personal and practice development is exciting and innovative, encompassing best practice with new ideas allows the shaping and improvement of clinical arena for increased quality in patient care.

    Cons

Not enough sharing of good ideas, and areas of excellence. Needs more HR support for staff, in some areas.

    Advice to Management

More open forums to share good ideas or practice. More cross service workings to look with fresh eyes at current practice and aim to reduce embedding poor culture. More celebration of success and recognition of grass roots level employees who give of themselves everyday.
