I worked at Quest Diagnostics part-time

    Pros

Great co-workers, allows for personal growth

    Cons

Would like to have been communicated more about the direction which leadership plans on taking my department. At the time, it was unsure about whether position was going to be outsourced or not. Over a year of gossip and no justification on company position.

    I worked at Quest Diagnostics

    Pros

Generous time off, other benefits are standard.

    Cons

Too many managers, few leaders. More interested in processes than results, as demonstrated in requests for one spreadsheet or report after another that duplicates information. Most management brought in in the past 7 years are young and do not value older and experienced employees. HR afraid to reprimand bully sales managers.....and this is coming from over 20 years there, keeping out of trouble/controversies and doing my job well. Fear of layoff (it happened to me) pervasive and causes mistakes, and a CYA attitude throughout the organization. Not at all a healthy place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to those who have been there longer than you... Provide some fun activities once in a while, it goes a long way to build teams and reduce stress.

I worked at Quest Diagnostics full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Fairly ok insurance once you've been there 90 days. Thorough training for new hires, which is 2 weeks long for full-time.

    Cons

Lots of overtime, occurrences for being sick even with a Dr.'s note, not a good environment for pregnant women, hard to talk with supervisors since they are never around.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with over time, don't say "some" and then add 16 hours mandatory.

I worked at Quest Diagnostics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Good benefits and pay
    - the company tries to communicate to employees
    - opportunities for additional training (Six Sigma, management training)
    - If you are a B-level performer, you can work here forever and never get found out

    Cons

    - silos: the business units each have their own goals and are often in competition
    - minimal opportunities to advance to senior management without relocation to Madison NJ
    - If you are naturally hard-working, your extra effort is not rewarded

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Solicit more feedback from mid-level employees who are closer to the problems, rather than opting for top-down solutions that are out-of-touch with the day-to-day.
