I worked at Quest Diagnostics full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great perks and benefits offered due to it being a large corporation with a very expansive national presence. They offered matching 401(k), an employee stock purchase program and reasonably priced supplemental disability insurance plans.

    Cons

Quest is a very large organization where change is slow to take effect/be implemented, yet as with all companies, change is needed. The training was frequent and good for both professional and personal growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Some of the business units and groups within a unit are great, some groups are miserable. It all depends on the individual manager and how they run their department. If you're considering being an employee, see if you can meet your co-workers before accepting a position. See how sad/happy/nervous they are - middle managers are constantly having to justify their existence, so they may or may not back up their employees if there are issues.

Benefits are pretty good, there is still 401K matching.

    Cons

All of IT was outsourced and as a result the help desk is unusable and infrastructure response times are very slow. Network down? Too bad, it'll take a couple of hours to find someone to help.

Expect to spend at least 30 minutes on the phone with the help desk, and unless your request is simple like a password reset, any help or fix will take weeks. The ticket that is created will be garbled and incomprehensible, often assigned to the wrong group. Although, you will get occasional emails asking if your ticket can be closed - even though the problem has not yet been addressed!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of Wipro and bring back your talented IT staff (looking at you, New CIO). Trusting network, operating system management, and databases to offshore personnel is risking operations and ultimately, patient reporting. This is a laboratory company whose primary product is laboratory results. Outsourcing the means to store and transmit these results is risking the primary product of the company.

I worked at Quest Diagnostics full-time for more than a year

    Pros

My development team was my only life line while working here. Without them I would have never made it as long as I did. If you align yourself with the right people you can advance. You do have the availability to work from home. The medical and vacation benefits were good.

    Cons

The political games run rampant. There is no work-life balance. Expect to work around 60 hours, plus having a release every Friday night and being on call all weekend. New and innovative ideas are squashed, you are just supposed to do as your told. There is no opportunity to learn. The mangers stay in their glass offices and don't interact with the team, so they will never know what is going on, but complain that nothing is getting done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop playing the game of politics. Stop letting bullies rule the place. A certain female manager dictates everything there by operating using fear and bullying.

    Cons

Constant changes by upper management for sake of shareholder profits

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To increase profit margin look at the real causes of lost profits and not go after IT and administrative positions take a look at your salaries and benefits and ask are you really worth what you get

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are many opportunities to learn about the Medical field. Tuition reimbursement is excellent, education is heavily encouraged. They offer many CEU courses periodically.

    Cons

Supervisors and Managers can be a burden to the employees. Most supervisors sit in their offices and will rarely come out only just to criticize. Management do not treat the people doing to work with respect, as if they are "above" or "better" than everyone else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please treat your subordinates better than your superiors, you will gain more respect and feel better as people. Take time to train people and give them the "why" instead of saying "because I said so."
