I have been working at Quest Diagnostics

    Pros

The SLT at quest is great at finding talent and mentoring/promoting them

    Cons

When things are going well everyone is happy but at the 1st sign of a problem everyone freaks out and makes the problem more than it really is

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Paying someone that is hired into a position more than you would pay someone you promot sends a BAD message

    Pros

Good environment. decent pay, could be better I could give a better review but haven;'t worked here since 2007 and that year wasn't an option. I have been an independent contractor since that time

    Cons

To concerned with competition to the point of short changing the client

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunities for advancement, very competitive wages and benefits such as health insurance plans, wellness programs, generous time off with pay plan, tuition reimbursement and bonus plan. New CEO getting company refocused on core business and organic growth.

    Cons

Many acquisitions has led to some redundancies and inefficiencies. Recent restructuring and downsizing has impacted morale, quality control and left a loss of community feel.

I worked at Quest Diagnostics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The employees are all great work with and know how to work as a team. Everyone helps eachother out for the good of the patients.

    Cons

Management is terrible. Very disorganized and most managers are two faced. They say one thing to your face and something completely different behind your back. Not very customer service orientated and set bad examples for employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to change completely. Human resources should start fresh with all new people who actually care about the good of the patient.

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Initially room for growth
    Flexibility to work from home

    Cons

    No work life balance whatsoever
Working from home = not seeing the sunlight
Zero focus on employee satisfaction. Bonuses have been flattened for everybody regardless of work put in.
Not rehiring employees, putting workload on existing staff.
Lack of over support and consideration.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the people. Your shareholders will feel the impact, stop cutting the rewards just to give senior leadership their bonuses and the shareholders their dinky dividends. I could never recommend this place to a friend. I have felt the most stress, lack of sleep, and overall feeling of inadequacy in my job in the last 2-3 years due to the new regime's uncaring nature of the people. You need to seriously consider the consequences of your actions. You may be thinking stocks look great now, just wait until all of your experts leave.

Stringent rules, and very top heavy with management

I worked at Quest Diagnostics part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you care for helping people, and or lab work it is a good place to work. Culture is very strict with many rules and some micromanagement. If you like to work with different problems that arise daily then this is your place. Many things are not routine, many different issues arise.

    Cons

They want you to follow everything to a T. Management in my opinion is very heavy and because of the size of the company it is a little hard to ever see "top management". For example I worked there three years and never saw the CEO or CFO the entire time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say that right hand and left hand should always know what they are doing.

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Most of my co-workers are nice.
    Lots of vacation time.

    Cons

    Excessive mandatory overtime.
    Inept upper management.
    Little chance for advancement.
Most of the hours are bad.
    Treat temps poorly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't claim "extraordinary circumstances" when expected events happen. If the people on the floor know we will be getting more work, you should too. Hire temps! Nobody likes 10-12 hour workdays.
If someone is verbally abusive and throws scissors at co-workers, they really need to be fired on the spot.

The science and the research team are great, but the organization is sometimes micromanaged and top-heavy.

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

It's great to work on the cutting edge of diagnostics and know that you're helping people, and contributing to the evolution of personalized medicine.

    Cons

There seems to be culture of limiting advancement, to a certain degree, which can be discouraging. And as said before, the organization can sometimes be too-heavy, resulting in more oversight and micromanaging than may be strictly necessary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value the scientists more and realize that they are fundamental to building the esoteric assays that are driving organic growth, and thus are extremely valuable.
