    Pros

Good experience for new graduates, if your willing to do extra work you will learn in the process.

    Cons

There is not a specific trainer, you learn the most by word of mouth. Difficulty in some of the departments working together, and very confusing because of organization. In some areas of the laboratory there is no work life balance.

    Pros

good health benefits, additional employer credit for healthy choices, 5% 401k employer matching, fully vested from day 1, paid holidays

    Cons

LAYOFFS LAYOFFS LAYOFFS - The new CEO is consolidating and closing down a lot of the sites around the country.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A LOT of us gave many years to this company only to have our job consolidated and moved to another state. Yes, a severance plan is offered, but, this was our livlihood.

Former Employee - Specimen Technician I in Cypress, CA

I worked at Quest Diagnostics full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits, good pay, great learning experience. Loved the people I worked with.

    Cons

Complaints/comments to supervisor were NOT kept confidential; basically you need to be a "snitch" to be in good terms with upper management. Personally found that out the hard way and learned to keep my mouth shut when it comes to disclosing any HONEST issues/concerns/comments to the supervisor about a lead (or any upper management). Training within this department was extremely unorganized and done by an old lady that has been working for the company in this department for 15 years, whom has memory loss, (and is going through menopause) making the entire training process overwhelmingly confusing. She would explain the steps for a certain procedure while leaving out numerous minor (but important) details, and as a result this would get us "newbies" in trouble by other managers/leads because we did something wrong/incorrectly/out of order/missed a step within the procedure of processing specimen samples. Overworked graveyard shifts, NO HOLIDAYS OFF (includes thanksgiving, Christmas, NYE). Also, major LAY OFFS due to company moving locations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Somebody needs to see how corrupt management is, and hire someone who actually manages the department genuinely and honestly.

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics

    Pros

Quest Diagnostics is employs great medical laboratory professionals in a wide range of disciplines and settings. At the end of day all of the laboratory staff are 110% patient care oriented.

    Cons

Quest has not yet figured out if they are a standardized company or a decentralized company. Several years after buying AmeriPath it has not yet learned how to integrate all of the AP offering.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't buy off more than you can chew without having resources available.

Current Employee - Paramedical Examiner in Troy, MI

I have been working at Quest Diagnostics part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company is nation wide and very well known. My branch manager is amazing and patient! My scheduale is very flexiable.

    Cons

Part of the position is mobile paramedical examiner for life/disability for different insurance company's. Sometimes applicants are a no show or the area that you work in doesn't have a lot of applicants. Therefor, you may have a lot of gaps or be very slow.
