Pros
1-So practical business environment
2-The professionalism is high in the workplace
3-Flexible work hours
Cons
Employees need more encouragement and clear career path
Advice to Senior Management
pay more attention to the engineers
Pros
- Easy work.
- Good pay.
- Cool managers. They like to say yes to every request.
- No dress code at all. You can wake up in the morning and drive in with what you wore to bed last night.
- We are allowed to work from home twice a week.
Cons
- It's top heavy in management. Basically, there's too many managers.
- No clear career paths.
- No Christmas parties allowed! This is a company policy. You can guess the reason why.
Advice to Senior Management
Give bonuses to everyone, not just who we vote to get it.
Promote from within the company. Stop hiring people from outside and have them slash and lay-off people who dedicated their time to work for the company for many years.
Pros
Ability to work mostly from home
Ability to travel
Average to above average industry compensation
Cons
Since it is a growth-through-acquisition company, director-level and above jobs are saved for the high-ranking officials of the companies that Quest acquires.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote from within.
Pros
With more than 160 products, there's plenty to sell
Cons
Comp plans are not competitive in the market place
Pros
The leadership teams cares a lot about the culture feeling like a small company. They want people to have fun and be very proud of working for them.
Cons
Didn't get a lot of communication on leadership changes. Would have like to have more formal reviews of my performance to see if I could move up, and if not, what could I work on.
Advice to Senior Management
I know it's hard because you guys are so busy, but would be good to hear from the leaders mroe frequently.
Pros
Quest has many solution areas, allowing you to help customers in a variety of ways. Unlike a company that sells only one product, you have many solutions to grow the account.
Cons
You can have multiple reps calling into the same accounts. It's critical reps make good notes for all to see.
Advice to Senior Management
Should consider pay scales be adjusted for top producing talent or will see many people leave for better pay scale.
Pros
A lot of different projects and product categories to work within. Primary product category is IT software, so lots of challenges to tackle in that space.
Cons
As with all software companies, the market place changes quite a bit from year to year. Trying to stay ahead of the curve can be a challenge. As such, certain projects and plans can change quite a bit.
Advice to Senior Management
The economy is starting to slowly turn up. There cannot be the assumption that good employees will stay no matter what -- splitting accounting hairs with mandatory vacation times, or "creative" employee benefit contributions, even if they are limited, might be the straw that breaks the camel's back for some.
Pros
Learned a lot. Worked with some smart people.
Cons
No room for advancement. Long hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of the engineers.
Pros
The people I worked with on a day-to-day basis were some of the most professional and inspiring co-workers I have ever had. There was a true sense of team and everyone working to the same goal.
Cons
The harsh economy has made Quest Software a difficult place to work if you don't live in California. Communication out of corporate was sparse and often just rumors; people will make stuff up if they aren't given direction. Pressure at the top to increase performance works downhill. Forced-vacations with little notice to employees does not encourage loyalty to a workforce already trying to do more with less.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop whipping the worker bees and look to the people who are supposed to making the big decisions for why you aren't performing why you used to. The top executives "let go" senior managers who used to question how things were getting done. And now things aren't getting done at all. Maybe top executives NEED someone to question them even if they don't like it.
Pros
location, salary, job nature and location
Cons
compensation not competative, policy not clear and keep changing, org-change and laid-off frequently
