    Pros

Quest promoted work life balance. Encouraged employees to push the envelope to be creative.

    Cons

Once acquired by Dell lots of fire-drills for reports, marketing updates. Added to the heavy work load can be extremely frustrating. Cost cutting activity make it difficult to make goals for the business.

    Advice to Management

Morale was low and it appeared that management had no interest in fixing it. The attitude was do more with less and deal with it.

    Pros

Fresh fruit and K-cup coffee in the breakrooms.

    Cons

Pervasive mediocrity interrupted by pockets of shocking incompetence. Aggressive acquisitions are followed by layoffs and malign neglect. Executives who manage products and divisions into the ground are rewarded with promotions. You may search in vain for evidence of leadership or vision.

    Advice to Management

They managed to get acquired by Dell for what looks like a nice sum, so clearly they don't need my advice.

  3. Helpful (1)

Some good people, some good promise, but very little execution

    Pros

Quest is now part of Dell Software Group, the future of Dell, so there is some security if you are on the right product team for the future. Some very good people in the right places. Some very good products in the right places. Some perks, good benefits, decent pay. Annual sales kickoff in Vegas doesn't hurt either.

    Cons

Pay / total comp / benefits are below industry peers, especially the smaller faster growing competition. Dell is not willing to get competitive because there are 200 resumes waiting to fill your spot for less pay. I left for a much smaller competitor for a lot more money and flexibility. Lot of dead weight middle management. Lot of layers. Lot of dead weight bottom level sales people and long-time Quest (or acquisition) employees that should have been cut ages ago. Which means that top people could be compensated and treated better if you cut the fat and focused. Products take way too long to improve and launch new releases. Way behind industry trends and innovations.

    Advice to Management

Pay your people, treat your best people well, or risk losing them all and having a team of mediocre players. Cut all the layers, all the internal BS and processes and legacy systems, get modernized.

    Pros

Prior to the Dell buyout. I enjoyed it. A lot of in-place policies and procedures. Established. Free fruit, coffee, tea, etc.

    Cons

Typical company politics within a mid size company.

    Advice to Management

Encourage and implement more company interaction between departments.

    Pros

Excellent teamwork across divisions. New technical skills developed often, through business acquisitions and internal product development. Good pay and benefits. Good reputation in the software space.

    Cons

Job restructuring and lay offs occur often. Corporate office employees treated better than those working at satellite offices or remotely. Recently acquired by large corporation leading to uncertainty.

    Pros

Good Company, nice pace to start your career, if you do your job you can have a long career, future looks bright

    Cons

Change with acquisition and new management, products are 3rd or 4th in Enterprise Space, will have difficulty in large accounts, middle market company

    Advice to Management

Streamline Business Units, 6 Business units operate independently of each other and sell to the same customers, overwhelming for customer and bad for business

    Pros

A lot of great people. Can easily put yourself in a position to get experience in other groups of sales. Career path if you want it. Fun people to work with. Office atmosphere is laid back.

    Cons

Culture when I was there was shifting. Upper management had their own cliques depending on location. "Inner Circle" mentality was prevalent. Some management was just riding the coattails of great reps on their team. Very little value add. Some terrible salespeople did well because of deals being handed to them. Kept people that didn't perform way too long. Morale was low right before I left.
