I have been working at Quiksilver full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    -amazing people to work with
-laid back environment... people skate to meetings
-I really love what I do

    Cons

Upper management has NO clue how to run a company - almost everyone who works here is miserable and wants out. The turnover is at an all time high, and what's worse is that the people who run the company don't care. They operate with the mentality that "if you don't want this job, we'll find someone else who does (and for less money)". Speaking of money, it's rumored that our CEO gets a LA-OC chauffeured ride to and from work every day ... I'm sure that's not cheap! And with people getting let go left and right, it's not exactly a morale booster either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I get it- our stock valuation is important. But for continuity, you need to realize that a company is only as strong and profitable as the employees behind it. Give more thought to the haphazard choices you make, and focus more on what really matters... making great products with a great team supporting you.

I worked at Quiksilver as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Relaxed environment, fun people, creative. The office is absolutely beautiful and people always seem to be having a blast. It is fast paced yet relaxed.

    Cons

a little disorganized, hectic, there was a lot of down time where the employers didn't know what work to give the people working under them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider hiring interns only if you have legitimate work to give them, as it can be a little boring to sit and do nothing.

I worked at Quiksilver part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I loved the "Ohana" feel of the company. Employees quickly become family & the discounts for Quik/Roxy products are generous.

    Cons

Management is very much determined by bromances. It's difficult to grow within the company if you're not a long-time friend.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire managers who don't do their jobs properly & represent the company in a negative light! I love Quiksilver (you're awesome) but had to quit because I couldn't stand the behavior of my boss. Even though multiple complaints were sent out to corporate by all employees at this location, this individual was not questioned or moved. It was such a letdown.

I worked at Quiksilver full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Casual/fun work environment. Good discount on the clothes. Lots of paid holidays. Good work/life balance, in my department at least.

    Cons

No room for career advancement. Layoffs and restructuring very common now, so morale is low. Some departments seemed to get more perks than others. Communication between departments is lacking. Changes are made by upper management poorly implemented.

I worked at Quiksilver full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Everyone is treated as a family; it is very comfortable to be friends with everyone and the best part is that everyone comes from a different part of the world!
    - There is different events, promotions and parties that go on.
    - The discounts are awesome - 75% off just for you! and you get some friends and family discounts but it doesn't equal to that.
    - If your lucky you will meet Kelly Slater, Bob McKnight (the founder), and corporate.
    - Good for young adults.
    - Transfer to other locations and discounts anywhere in the U.S

    Cons

    - Pay is okay, it is better than other retail jobs but it depends. Sometimes you can work your ass off and be there for a long time and the promotions are very little, or they decide to give it to someone who doesn't do their job.
    - Based on who is favored will get the promotion.
    - Crazy shifts (makes you tired)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to really think it over who they choose to get promoted to management. They pick who is favored. The ones that get chosen don't know how to do anything. Sometimes it is micro-managed.

    Pros

Great customer service and my coworkers are top notch people. You really get to know product and give your customers a well rounded experience

    Cons

Unless you surf you won't be able to fully pitch selling a surf board. I don't surf at all and that's always a challenge trying to sell someone on one when you don't know anything about it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure your managers really know how to communicate with their staff. The lack of leadership is terrible.
