    I worked at Quintiles

    Pros

The team I worked with was great. We all worked together to achieve what the Sponsor wanted for the trial. If I had a question any of the team members were able to answer my questions.

    Cons

The manager I reported to was not helpful for my career path. Consistency when managers changed was lacking as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers need to be the type of person that likes to interact with people. They don't need to be focused on how many people they can push out of the way to make themselves look good for further employment options.

I have been working at Quintiles full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great growth and development structure. Great benefits. Promotes work-life balance. If you put hard work in, they will reward you.

    Cons

Right now there's a lot of turnover because of corporate changes. Quintile's goals and needs are changing and many people don't like change - it might be to much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to grow and develop and promote from within.

    Pros

    Cons

Contracts have a life of their own and there are no guarantees to length of contract.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Vacation should not be restricted to company time off during holiday shut downs.

I have been working at Quintiles

    Pros

Very good training, team atmosphere, supportive managers. Q generally does a good job of doing what it takes to keep good people.

    Cons

Salary is a bit behind competitors. Sometimes bad apples linger too long before being let go. Workload for CRAs is unrealistic - but in all fairness, that seems to be pretty representative of CROs in general.

Top Management Out of Touch with Employees

    I worked at Quintiles

    Pros

Most people are very nice and friendly.

    Cons

Many managers are not qualified for their job. That's why so many employees are shuffled around among the managers. They don't know how to be a good manager, so they hang on to their 'empire' and can give you completely opposite evaluations within one week just because it fits their political needs. They also don't know how to train new hires. They let senior employees that nobody wants to work with micromanage the newbies with poor planning and sometimes melodramas, even though they clearly know that. It's all about politics.

Work load is stressful. Projects are often in a bad shape, so people are over stressed towards the end, especially the CRAs. The attitude is very poor between different departments - balls often get kicked around, liability/bottom line/finger pointing is more important than getting the project done, and the general line is 'other departments and branches don't do their job so we have to clean things up'.

The company culture is all about business needs. They won't even try to hide it. You, as a robot, don't matter. It's about their money. Various career paths are poorly designed as their experimental tools. These programs are not fair, and don't select the best candidates. However, because these fit their business needs, they won't even bother to pretend they care about their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please train the managers. This is a job that can determine a lot what kind of employees the company gets to have and keep. During annual performance review, let people volunteer to anonymously evaluate employees they want to, instead of just letting employees pick whoever like them the most to evaluate them. The truth will never get out that way.
