Quorum did not make such a great impression for me due to group arrangements.

I worked at Quorum Business Solutions, Inc. full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Very large learning curve especially for entry level employees.

    Cons

Not very diverse yet (growing company) and people don't always mingle outside their work group of associates or friends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Creating some fun activities such as incentives etc. could help employees perform better and create room for associates to meet each other. I don't believe there is enough room for social activities as an entire company. Noticed many people who haven't met each other but have been working in the company for 2 or more years.

Learn, do good work, and find a better opportunity else where

I worked at Quorum Business Solutions, Inc.

    Pros

    - Very good opportunities for people to learn
    - Most of the people are nice
    - Good compensation
    - Good perks if you enjoy work travel

    Cons

    - Limited appreciation from senior management and middle managers
    - Too many inexperienced people and lack of working managers for mentoring
    - Long hours
    - A relatively stressful work environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your people, not only limited to compensation per se, but say encouraging words in the hallway, trained your managers to appreciate the employees, etc. Sometimes small things can have multiplying effects. Understand your people's needs and the situations, don't just focus on chargeability. Communicate to employees more frequently, a lot of time people just don't know the direction and the future of the company.

Small company. Hire on people that has nothing to do with their job. Expanding faster than they can take on.

    Pros

The people are nice. They have an intro course for all new consultants to learn how to do their job. Can easily transfer offices.

    Cons

It is in a bad location. You have to meet people on your own. The benefits not great. They need to improve on processes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should hire individuals that pertain to their majors. Should also look into improving how things are done. Growing faster than they can handle.

Quorum is an information technology firm that offers software to the natural gas industry.

I have been working at Quorum Business Solutions, Inc.

    Pros

It is a good place for recent college graduates to learn about the natural gas industry and about the technology that is utilized to manage the business. For experienced people, the company allows flexibility for those seeking a decent work-life balance, and contribute.

    Cons

Work can become tedious for those anxious to grow faster or with A personalities. Work focus is narrow and training limited to two areas - during on-boarding and as needed on-the-job only. As with any technology company, employee turnover is high and job growth limited to projects available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is not expected for the senior management to listen to the employees in general. Management is either the founding team, or people that worked with them at the previous consulting firm.

    Pros

It takes a certain type of person to thrive here (comp sci and engineering types), and you can move up if you put in your 50+ a week. It's never monotonous, and you can always find work to do. But you do get to call yourself a Consultant!

    Cons

Where to start... well, the turnover is very high, probably because the pay isn't worth the sacrifice of your personal happiness. The holiday bonus is comical (it was less than my part time college job). You get weird looks for leaving anywhere near 5pm, and you get called out by your boss in front of the entire team for it. The sheer thought of a work/life balance is hilarious and naive. Also, asking for any time off is like pulling teeth, so just take sick days instead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the numbers game: Hire 100+ new grads, lose most of them, and do it all over again next year. It's worked so far.

Was very limiting and hard to work there.

I worked at Quorum Business Solutions, Inc.

    Pros

Met some great people there. Made some great friends who I have kept in touch with and also left there with some great contacts who helped me find other jobs that were better suited to me.

    Cons

The overall management was very strict and did not allow for any new learning or development of skills. I did not really appreciate the way I was spoken to there or treated either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to understand your employees better. When you tell them that you will provide them with guidance as a new recruit right out of college, make sure you follow through with your words.

    Pros

Good starting salary, semi-annual bonuses, learn as much technical information as you like, learn about a specific niche in the oil and gas industry.

    Cons

Introverted work place, regardless of position it is very technical, long hours - minimum 45 hour billable weeks, unreasonable deadlines, most skills learned can only be applied to Quorum specific applications, lack of communication between management and consultants, company structure is a mystery to most employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create most accountability company-wide. Have open communication between verticals within the company.
