Pros
Treat employees fairly, reward top performance
Cons
Compensation is lacking compared to like roles in other companies.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership does a good job recognizing employees. Compensation needs to be reviewed to maintain competitiveness.
Pros
Established company, built in monopoly, long history in the telephony industry and some technological innovation in the past
Cons
Very change resistant culture, little communication/collaboration, issues with trust and corruption previously
Advice to Senior Management
Focus on profitability, Innovate with new products
Pros
A company with dedicated employees and a god working atmosphere
Cons
Financial troubles and downsizing create some fear in employees
Advice to Senior Management
Keep lines of communication open. You cannot maintaine profit by just downsizing
Pros
Middle managers are by and large very supportive of employees and help to foster a healthy work/life balance. Compensation is fair and benefits are competitive.
Cons
With the pending merger with Century Link, job security is non-existent. Notebaert was an excellent CEO and his very personable and direct nature really filtered down throughout the ranks. In contrast, the current CEO and current senior leadership have proven very difficult to trust...to the point where the exact opposite of what they say is most likely to be true. Massive lay-offs occurring now in a very quiet way so as not to attract media attention when the merger finally completes.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend less time on preparing your golden parachutes and nagging us to donate to the United Way (the kickbacks must be sizeable) and spend more time communicating with your employees.
Pros
The Company provides great opportunities to develop life-long skills.
Cons
Politics and favortism, especially among the attorneys to protect each other.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat all employees regardless of title/position in a courteous and respectfuly manner.
Pros
Great Benefits, Vacation, Healthcare
Good people
mature processes
Cons
Very limited opportunity for enhancement as the company isn't growing.
Slow to change
Advice to Senior Management
Look at compensation. Spend some time analyzing the VP and above positions. There's a lot of savings to be had there..
Pros
The pay is within industry standards and first and second levels will work with you. But it is a dieing industry.
Cons
The telecom industry is dieing and moving to wirerless. It won't be long before all the phones in the world will be in someones pocket
Advice to Senior Management
I really don't have any andvise for them. they are selling the company and moving on. will have to wait and see how new management handles things
Pros
Pay is at the higher end of the scale, benefits are good, but are being more restricted. For the most part interesting and diverse workforce, the employees are generally super people.
Cons
Only mobility is genreally lateral. Promotions are still based on the "good Ol' Boy" network of who is going to be promoted and advanced. Not a meritocracy. Promotions are handed out based on favoritism. Not a place to have any career advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Really consider how you evaluate and advance employees- hire for excellence, promote for perfromance and ability. Forget the old U.S. West way of 10 years between promotions. Personal loyalty is not a reason for promotion.
Pros
The managers are very professional as well as upper management. Great benefits, pay, job autonomy.
Cons
somewhat fragmented communication between departments, some in-efficient use of time due to too many meetings. Also going through a merger.
Advice to Senior Management
schedule less meetings.
Pros
Qwest does have great benefit package right now for Union Members.
Cons
Qwest is being taken over by CenturyLink, hopefully that will infuse the company with some capitol to make internet improvements, however there is still no wireless cell phone presence.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to provide a cell phone presence for consumers
