Current Employee - Assistant Brand Manager in Parsippany, NJ

I have been working at RB full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very competitive compensation packages (base salaries, starting and yearly bonuses/bonus multipliers) attract tons of post-MBA and undergraduate talent with the promise of great financial stability.

The international nature of the company paired with its willingness and enthusiasm to sponsor international talent means an incredibly diverse pool of employees. In any given meeting you will be the only person from your country in the room, with people who have completely disparate backgrounds, cultures, and languages.

    Cons

SHORT-TERM MINDSET: At all levels brand, sales, supply are always thinking of how to meet their yearly bonuses- completely fair, but it means that brand-building long-term investments are rarely made. Brand managers consistently make decisions for short-term gains that negatively impact long-term growth.

WORK-LIFE BALANCE: Most (though not all) teams are under-staffed, with people doing the work of 2 or more people; in some cases empty positions are left open for months (or left un-filled), as the company looks to save on costs. This means things get lost in the cracks and talented smart people are burned out.

DISRESPECTFUL: RB says that its people are "direct," but often this is conflated with being rude and disrespectful. Cursing, short tempers, and sometimes blow-ups, are the norm. There is little concern for others.

ANTI-COLLABORATIVE: Cross-functional team collaboration is ESSENTIAL for this kind of company, but due to the attitudes (see above) cross-functional team members often approach each other as adversaries rather than allies. Unproductive and de-motivating.

Overall RB is a negative environment where many of its (smart, talented, creative) staff are demoralized and quickly burned out- it's not a good thing when the norm is for people in the company to say that it is "terrible," "awful," etc. and are building or trying to enact their escape.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage LONG-TERM thinking- growth shouldn't only be achievable through acquisitions.

Build, develop, and INVEST in your talent- it takes so much less effort and resources than you think to properly train new hires, and this will pay in dividends when your talent flourishes and WANTS to stay on-board beyond a year. You also may be able to get away with paying lower salaries and bonuses if you provide a more positive environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Former Employee - Supply in Parsippany, NJ

I worked at RB full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

salary is usually pretty good, depending on your department, good bonus plan. you can learn all you can absorb

    Cons

Some really bad middle management. Currently 'cleaning house' and firing or making the environment so challenging they quit. warehouses have been trashed, with no leadership left in them. Plants are going their own way. Supply is a shambles thanks to crappy leadership. Corporately a 'dog eat dog' environment, with no clue about what happens outside of Parsippany. "A" is for arrogance. People are our strongest asset? Not at Reckitt. Hope no one calls the EPA, DEA, or FDA.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Fast Pace But High Stress

I have been working at RB

    Pros

Due to the lean structure and fast pace, you get a lot of exposure and experiences from Day 1 which allows you to quickly enhance your skill set. Also progression is quick so there are many opportunities to work in various locations and across multiple brands.

    Cons

On the downside, the structure and fast pace results in a high-stress environment and eventual burnout. Also the demands of the business makes work/life balance difficult. Lastly, the culture encourages disrespect between employees and lack of accountability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider providing actual direction and consistent priorities. Also help lighten the workload by proper resourcing and reduction of countless meetings.

    I worked at RB

    Pros

It is a great international company with lots of opportunities for global mobility. People are smart and come from different nationalities. Sometimes you feel like you are working at United Nations. Very good pay and bonus program.

    Cons

Very aggressive business culture, more leaning on zero sum gains vs. win-win while dealing with vendors and suppliers. Similar culture in between departments, even when you communicate to sales or marketing, you look like an adversary rather than a colleague.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more synergies among and between departments.
