    Pros

Plenty of resources to do your job. Benefits were good when I was there and there is plenty of quality individuals within the organization.

    Cons

The compensations system for my area was a bit of a black box. I had a very hard time figuring out what I felt the correct compensation was based on my production.

    Advice to Management

Set clear compensation guidelines for employees who are in risk positions. That might have changed since I left.

    Pros

    - friendly culture
    - decent work/life balance
    - opportunities for internal positions
    - competitive benefits

    Cons

    - could do more to provide employees with professional qualifications
    - salary and compensation slightly below market rate

    Advice to Management

Management are very personable and approachable at all levels. While this is a plus point in the main, one could argue that a little more authority from management would yield better performance.

  7. Solid Firm, Working Toward Bulge Bracket but Not Quite There

    Pros

Generally friendly culture, decent deal flow

    Cons

Not much M&A in investment banking, mostly capital markets, not enough lead left underwriting. A lot of co-manager roles and non-lead left bookrunning. Very long hours given that it's not quite at the very top tier of investment banks.

    Advice to Management

Might want to focus a little more on retention, seemed like a lot of turnover even for investment banking.

  8. RBC Capital Markets

I have been working at RBC Capital Markets full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Very good people still remain in NY. Pretty rapid change and turnover in personnel in capital markets. Very good place to lateral into - training is better at the larger US banks.

    Cons

Decent work life balance for an investment bank. Bank has gotten more political in recent years as it has hired senior managers laterally.

    Pros

Great compensation and work balance because I was in the finance department. Investment Banking interns do really experience the long hours.

    Cons

    I did not learn much

    Advice to Management

    Leadership is discouraging

  10. Exciting, promising, and very inclusive.

    Pros

People are down-to-earth, smart, friendly, and exceptionally passionate about their work, their clients, and about RBC. The company does a lot to invest in the employees and makes you feel wanted, rewarded, and informed to the best of their ability.

    Cons

I believe this is more of an industry con, but too many books are done, some of which are not even required in the first place. Specifically to RBC, it is probably the best time to take lead and move officially into bulge bracket.

    Advice to Management

Try to make the process of pitches (pitches book related work) more streamlined and simple.
