I have been working at RBC Capital Markets as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

As a summer intern they give you exposure to actual work you would complete as a full time analyst. They offered great opportunities to meet and network within the bank. The

    Cons

For the first week of training, the people hired weren't the best. I think overall it was fine but even people within the firm felt that a different group for the first week training should have been selected but other than that I had a great summer experience.

I worked at RBC Capital Markets full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I was satisfied with the work-life balance. The work environment is pleasant. People are generally nice You're not pressured like other organizations.

    Cons

RBC Capital Markets is not considered a "top tier" bank in the United States, and it shows in SOME of the colleagues I've had the pleasure to work with.

    Cons

I have been working at RBC Capital Markets full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Taking share and generally positive attitude (which is a nice break from a lot of places on Wall Street today)

    Cons

Pay is slightly below the comparable Wall Street firms (for associates). Promotions and ability to move up is no better than other places.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay appears to be entirely determined by experience.

I worked at RBC Capital Markets full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

RBC is a rock solid company. Pay is ok. Benefits very good. Long tenure of employees. Invests a lot in employees and the brand.

    Cons

The corporate strategy of the US firm, seemed to change every couple of years. Technology is some of the most antiquated on Wall Street, but they are catching up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider higher and more diverse compensation.

I have been working at RBC Capital Markets full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It's a stable environment for the moment but that's about all that can be said for it.

    Cons

This is a brutal environment where everything, and I mean everything, is done on spreadsheets. The senior managers seem to have very little understanding of the bigger picture and how to fix the problems. Rather than re-arrange things they just yell at the juniors and make them work crazy hours to cover the cracks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in some senior people who know what they're doing and engage with IT to get some automation in place.

    Pros

NIce area of new york some good coworkers

    Cons

Terrible management its not what you know in this company its who you know. I saw people come in and get top jobs and top pay with no experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advise would be to revamp your management team RBC does not care about there employees unless they personally know them.

Definitely not a leading edge company. Very good benefits. Limited growth opportunities for employees

I worked at RBC Capital Markets full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are very good. Work/life balance very good but declining.

    Cons

One of the most politically motivated organizations I've been a part of over 25 years of industry experience. Lack of vision (maybe local level?).

I have been working at RBC Capital Markets full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Generally good people, decent benefits, organizational growth underway in US which opens the possibility of positive change. Financially strong parent provides a degree of security during bad times.

    Cons

Parent company is very bureaucratic, slow to react, lacks sense of urgency, misunderstands US market. Pinches pennies in all the wrong places - e.g. Technology platform is antiquated (quite literally, obsolete - IE 7, Microsoft Office 2003, major latency issues....make day to day activities daunting) and the organization is seemingly unwilling to fix it. Notable gender bias, although that is unfortunately not unusual for the industry. Mentally exhausting place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eventually you're going to have to invest in technology infrastructure. The longer you put it off, the harder and more expensive it will be. We will not be competitive in our industry and will have a very hard time retaining employees otherwise.
