I worked at RBC Dominion Securities as a contractor

    Pros

The company values a drive to succeed and will quantify that success based on your ability to drive business

    Cons

There can be a culture of entitlement as there is a lot of money being managed. which also leads to it being a bit of a 'boys club'

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Would be valuable to find a way to nurture a talent pool. many employees find themselves at this organization being brought in as contractors for their money managers who are effectively franchises. These employees tend not to have a path to growth in the business.

Former Employee - Intern in Toronto, ON (Canada)

I worked at RBC Dominion Securities as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Get to work with some of the best investment advisors in Canada. Very competitive atmosphere everyone is striving to get the best clients. Full in house wealth management firm, includes estate management really to take care of all of the needs of the client.

    Cons

Lots of time spent cold calling for clients. But that is part of the job. Cutthroat competitive environment over clients. Hard to break into the company as it is one of the highest regarded in Canada. Easier to break in by being poached from a rival company than to work up the ranks.

  10.

Alright working here for the brand name, but it's one of the stingiest firms out of all the large bank-owned brokerages.

I have been working at RBC Dominion Securities full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

*good brand name on the resume
    *okay benefits
    *opportunities for training
*may get reimbursed for some training programs (e.g. CSC/CPH)
    *nice office facilities

    Cons

*branch management makes or breaks the experience; for me personally, it's not a very good one
*low pay (especially compared to competitor firms)
    *apparently no raises are "standard"
*high turnover rate at the branch level

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more appreciation to support staff, hold anonymous evaluations for branch management at least once a year (with blank fields, not just multiple choice questions), provide competitive compensation, raises (at least on par with inflation) should occur annually
