Advice to Senior Management

Pros

Cons

Advice to Senior Management
Retain good talent
Pros
Helpful learning environment. Managers encourage employees to try new avenues and also keep updated with various courses. Gives a great insight into the backend working of the bank.
Cons
Compensation was on the lower side, however the bonus is quite generous and partly makes up for the lack of base salary.
Pros
Large corporate entity with diverse set of businesses that can allow growth in knowledge and some advancement career wise depending on the unit
Cons
Laid back and complacent corporate culture, mediocre skillset of employees, technologically dragging 5-7 behind US competitor, and large overhead in internal services due to overstaffed departments reflecting the level of late 90s.
Advice to Senior Management
The focus on advisory services and other value added services like insurance and IB without having at the same time banking branch penetration is limiting the growth of this company. It's well reflected in the share price and the inability to leverage opportunities that competitors like TD, BMO, and Scotiabank are creating for themselves.
Pros
Very good Stock options for staff
Cons
It can be difficult to move up in the company
Advice to Senior Management
Having knowledgable employess is great, but don't forget to look at internal hires.
Pros
Recognition for work done. Great team building / team sports / golf tournament events. Dinner and a cab when you work late.
Cons
Demanding hours during busy periods. Office space is not as glamourous as it could be. Free coffee is not that great.
Advice to Senior Management
I like the fact that RBC likes to develop within. Team building events do a great job in making us better.
Pros
Opportunity to work in one of the most admired financial institutions in the world
Fair treatment, merit-based hiring process with no bias against newcomers to Canada
Work-life balance
Cons
Difficulty in navigating through such a big organization can be overwhelming
Too much weight on titles/accreditation
Slow employee/management turnover, hence limited opportunities to move up
Advice to Senior Management
Make orientation mandatory among new employees to ensure that everyone in the organization gets a wholistic view of the bank & its vision as a Group
Pros
Teamwork, internal courses, managment support, really good for people with disabilities such as myself.
Cons
low wages- but this year they have added bonus incentives that are much better than previous years.
