I worked at REI Systems full-time

    Pros

    - very friendly coworkers
    - you will meet few very smart people
    - upper management is hands on and tries to re-enforce a healthy culture
    - depending on the project, you will get exposed and experienced

    Cons

-on most projects , 40 hr weeks do not cut it , you need to put 50-60 hrs to be in good terms with the managers, leaving after working 8 hrs will raise eyebrows around you.
    - on most projects, it is expected that you work on weekends when necessary, your personal time WILL be sacrificed to impress the client, you are expected to embrace this culture
    - if you don't know how much you are worth in the market, they will take advantage of you
    - if the PM over promised the client , you will pay the price to fulfill unrealistic expectations. you will have to put your personal time to cover up for the PMs mistakes, some PMs will also try to make it your fault so you feel obliged to work 80 hr weeks to catch up.
    - PMs usually only care about the project profit to impress the upper managers, although not uncommon, but it goes to the extreme.
    - Sometimes you will feel like an independent contractor where no one cares about your career path or well being .
    - maybe around 8 out of 10 employees are on H1 visa, that influences the work culture and salaries (usually h1 visa employees are more desperate and tolerate abuse in terms of work hrs or compensation)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mid level managers need serious work, and do not expect your employees to stay loyal to the company if they feel abused.

I worked at REI Systems full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company has a good reputation with its customers and they are generally very satisfied. The senior management cares about the company and tries to promote healthy work environment. The corporate culture is good.

    Cons

There are few bad managers who play politics and try to be dominant. They don't know how to talk to people and goes out of their way to prove their dominance. Why would anyone want to work with such people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees can't complain about their managers. Find and Fire these managers/resource managers.
    They can't be trained.

I have been working at REI Systems full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

REI is a gem along the beltway. I have worked at a number of different tech companies in the area and few can match this place. The grants work we do is incredibly impactful and it's typical to work very flexible hours - which is great for me and my family. I also enjoy the team I work - very friendly and reliable - along with the benefits of bagels, ping pong and Xboxes in the game room.

    Cons

The company is growing pretty fast and it is hard to know folks outside of your team. More should be done at the company or project team level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more company events. Get more employees involved in corporate initiatives and not rely on a handful of people to lead every club and program.

    Pros

Very friendly team members, supportive and understanding.

    Cons

    1. Inexperienced management. Bad planning, no value for people and hard work. Moreover, they make developers to pay for their own errors. They make you feel misarable and always judge you.
    2. A lot of overtime.
    3. A lot of actions against the labor law. Follow them or will be laid of. If you do not want to work overtime, you are not good team player.
    4. Nothing really interesting from technology side.
    5. They promote only people who they like, not who deserves promotion.

    Pros

Nice facility with some very knowledgeable technical team members who are helpful. You can learn a lot while you are here. Very hands on.

    Cons

Their salaries are well below industry average. I head people left got raises of 20K + in other companies when they left. I experienced this myself when I left the company. There are fewer americans and the companies has a lot of bound labor on visas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

The company has some good contracts. Senior management of the company is good and cares about the company. The facility is also nice.

    Cons

There is a lot of favoritism in the company. Be prepared for long working hours. Its a sweatshop. There is no process or order. Everything is emergency. Managers are non social and least interested in the employees. They get stressed very easily and then stress the hell out of everybody. They work like dictators.
