    Pros

Fairly free schedule, and the abillity to turn down jobs that you can not make due to scheduling concerns. Can be rewarding if you get into managerial roles and have the ability to handle the high levels of stress. Get to work with a wide variety of people, since you will work hand-in-hand with the staff at the stores you inventory.

    Cons

To succeed at this role, you need to be able to thrive in an extremely stressful environment while following a schedule that can change radically day by day. In addition, you will put an incrediblle number of miles on your car going to jobs 55 minutes away, with neither pay nor carpooling available until a 60 minute transit. Finally, you will constantly have junior managers breathing down your neck about your APM rate, while at the same time store staff follows you around triple-checking your work for the smallest difference.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the number of 55 minute commutes by any means necessary. Reduce the pressure on junior management.

    Pros

learning the basics of how inventory works. I got a chance to understand way to better self educate myself. I had innovated new ideas on how a company can grow.

    Cons

Having to drive my own car, being in car with smokers, and terrible work schedule. Not the worst job however I felt a new job was needed.

    Pros

Room for growth into management, decent pay at the salaried level, company car provided at management levels.

    Cons

Poor treatment of hourly workers. Having started there as an hourly employee, I witnessed all levels of treatment. The hourly wages, hours available, and overall quality of life was enough to drive you either up through the ranks, or out the door looking for anything else. Once you get into salary level, upper management wanted you find ways to cut costs and that was usually at the expense of your employees well being. Yes, you feel bad having come from that point that you are essentially screwing over the position you used to be in, but the threat of not doing so and losing your job far outweighed that feeling.

    Advice to Management

Remember that the employees make the company and that fair treatment will get you farther than anything else.

    Pros

Made some very good friends here. Reinforced my need to get job skills I did not have before so I could get a better job outside of this company. Gained leadership skills by learning what not to do.

    Cons

When current management company bought this company, MANY experienced long term employees took HUGE pay cuts, myself included. The ones who stayed, have very low morale.
The company promotes ACCURACY to their clients; but pushes the employees to go faster and faster, which actually makes things less accurate. Employees get raises based on speed, not accuracy. This encourages people to guess and estimate. They are losing customers because of accuracy issues.

Unpredictable hours, lots of travel, little appreciation. Lots of broken promises.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees like real people, not just numbers.
Give REAL benefits, paid sick time, and vacation time.
Go on "Undercover Boss" and try to do the job you expect your employees to do on a daily basis; and talk to some of the people employees who's pay you cut.
Going faster without accuracy is NOT efficiency.

    Pros

"Ray, how many toothpicks fell on the floor?" "256--definitely 256". If you love numbers and counting above all else, and count fast this is your job. Each day is different. Find bargains.

    Cons

Low pay. Low benefits. Erratic hours, in the middle of the night or very early in morning. January work like a dog. Nov-Dec. hardly work at all. Job is probably the most boring in the world. Also very tiring--on your feet and bending and kneeling & climbing ladders. Breaks are short. Equipment doesn't always work well, so this hurts your APH productivity and moving up in pay rank. Productivity expectations are very difficult to achieve in some stores, especially since a few counters are consistantly given the easiest areas. Getting to distant jobs involves a lot of driving. If you drive your own car, you spend lots on gas which is uncompensated. On short jobs you might lose money.

    Advice to Management

Higher pay. Higher benefits. Let everyone have a fair chance to count the easy areas. Let auditors wear headphone radios to relieve boredom. Will increase accuracy since you won't fall asleep from boredom.

    Pros

Huge opportunity for growth, diverse work pool, every day is challenging . Bonus structure is good and pay is decent.

    Cons

Zero work life balance, revolving door employment that only values most employees as a number .
I was encouraged to lie, cheat and steal from my employees at every turn and there were many shady ethical practices in not 1 but all 3 offices that I was apart of in separate states.

    Advice to Management

Please tighten hiring policies and pay attention to middle management. There is an layer of upper management that all bad decisions stem and they are causing the company a lot of money.

    Pros

Requires employees to Perform a wide variety of tasks, while working with various groups of people, at many different locations--from one day to the next. Flexible scheduling opportunities. Easy access to Managerial experience. Good exercise (requires constant, moderate physical activity).

    Cons

Requires a lot of travel in personal vehicles (often unpaid). Non-standard scheduling can cause conflicts for many people with steady lifestyles (parents with young children, people with other jobs). Advancement, beyond basic supervisor, generally requires severe relocation. Employer provides limited and few break/meal periods, regardless of intensity of labor, often resulting in long-term overuse related medical conditions / problems, and/or dehydration (this also negatively affects employee efficiency and retention).

    Advice to Management

Provide more informative training opportunities for employees, beyond requirements for current positions. For increased efficiency and to improve workplace quality, encourage autonomous work from skilled employees, rather than limiting their autonomy through excessive micromanagement. Also, the human body requires rest / re-hydration approximately every three hours during periods of moderate activity (some bodies require more or less depending on many factors, including: age, physical condition, and how much they sweat; which is determined by genetics). Working employees hard for 5 hours before a break, and for another 5+ after may be legally acceptable, but it is neither ethically acceptable, nor an efficient manner of improving productivity or retaining skilled employees.
