Decent company (when they can actually find you work)

Consultant (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at RGP as a contractor for more than 5 years

ProsThe pay was fairly competitive, some back office people are really good and actually care.

ConsLack of training, poor communication with some back office people, lack of work in mid to smaller markets.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more training, improve communication between consultants and back office, hold back office accountable for finding new work opportunities for consultants, do not rely on consultants to do this for you.

Free-agent in a consulting structure

Senior Project Manager (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at RGP as a contractor for less than a year

ProsSurround consultants with great recruiting, business business development and admin staff. Good opportunities to travel if you want to. Consultants do not have to sell their next engagement.

ConsVery limited firm infrastructure in terms of IT apps and support. Benefits more in-line with a contractor model than a consulting firm model. Difficult for consultants to feel a part of the Resources Global team, when they spend all their time at client sites.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue in niche space and develop opportunities for consultants to connect with the Resources Global team and brand.

Good. Although there are many distinct cultures at the company.

Internal Staff Client Service (Current Employee)
New York, NY

I have been working at RGP

ProsWork life is good if you are on int mgt team. They get good salary plus sizable bonuses.

ConsVery littler investment in consultants who generate money. No real downside protection. I feel like everything is on mr.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior leadership needs to recognize the inconsistency in how the model works and should do something to help consultants who may be down.

May work for some but I will never go near them again

Consultant (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at RGP

ProsMay work for some folks that want a flexible work model and are looking for opportunities to stay busy and are not so picky about work content and purpose.

They have good parties

ConsUnprofessional Environment

Interfacing with the client are a GQ 30 something crowd that wear nice clothes and take staff out to dinner and throw parties but have virtually no understanding of client specific needs - nothing more than a body shop with a "throw it up against the wall to see if it sticks" quality philosophy.

Consultants they hire tend to be seasoned professionals that are often capable enough to make this model work in spite of itself!

You really operate in this environment as a contractor "light" - they throw you a minimal benefits set but utilization risk rests entirely with you. Another key point, since the company has no independent appraishal of your skill set, effeciveness, performance you are highly vulnerable to the vagaries of firm/client skuttlebut and chemistry/non performance factors and I have seen some very capable people wash out because an originally poor fit results in spurious feedback and you are entirely on your own. Sniping often occurs when staff is place alongside other consulting firms or threaten other client agenda's and feedback (and the lack of forethought concerning appropriate role/accountability) and I have seen good people screwed from this.

The also tell you its up to you when and what you work on but as a practical matter you are naturally locked into the opportunity pool currently facing the firm and so this does not work in practice - large dysfunctional firms that are required by the outside world to throw money at a problem (SEC, DA, etc.) are this firms bread and butter. I have seen staff who are former CFO's performing bank reconciliations at ridiculous rates and former staff accountants teed up to the client as transitional controllers - no rhyme or reason. But they do have good parties!

Advice to Senior ManagementDont know what to say - theyy were never inclined to listen
