I worked at RMG Connect full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I had the opportunity to work with a lot of very talented folks at RMG. We had some world class clients and did great work!

    Cons

RMG Connect is no longer operational. It was folded into the JWT family and offices were realigned at that time to be more in line with some of the clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It was great while it lasted!

A smart digital and direct agency that was owned by JWT and Ogilvy Advertising and now no more.

I worked at RMG Connect full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Smart people delivering accountable marketing to traditional advertising clients. Strong Digital/Data office in Dallas.

    Cons

JWT took ownership of RMG Connect from Ogilvy and ruined it. JWT integrated and watered-down the capability. The best people have left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Traditional Advertising agencies should NEVER integrate specialty services like Digital | Data | Direct because they don't understand or appreciate the value they bring.

    I worked at RMG Connect

    Pros

    The clients were great
The team members were amazing - a talented bunch of people
The type of work completed was challenging

    Cons

    Long hours
    Little acknowledgement of contributions
Not enough focus on the clients and value
    Not enough support for employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are only as good as the team you have and will only be around (at a client) as long as you treat them fairly and give them good value.

I have been working at RMG Connect

    Pros

You get opportunities to develop new skill sets. Also RMG is not a sweet shop and has a good work/life balance.

    Cons

Project management needs to iron some internal process out to work in the 21st century. Need to get a larger office space.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Win some new contracts to expand areas of work. Also show your employees are of value to the organization. Thx

There's potential there, but not without some problems...

    I worked at RMG Connect

    Pros

    The people.
Not necessarily the higher ups, but the ones that are out there in the trenches and doing the work. RMG has a very talented creative team that's a pleasure to work with. Tech wizards over in Dallas that may say something can't be done but then take the time to prototype and find a way to make it happen. Analytics and planning departments that are worth their weight in gold since they provide the type of insight and metrics that actually inform a project and make it better. Smart people all around that recognize needs, voids and opportunities in every corner.

With JWT really internalizing RMG, the client portfolio has grown significantly and the caliber/scope of work coming out of the shop will surely continue increasing. There will be good opportunities there for the right candidates.

    Cons

Same as with all larger agencies: too many cooks in the kitchen, inefficiencies as a result of process limitations or bureaucracy and politics. It is always disappointing to find that some of the really interesting stuff will be outsourced to a vendor, but that, too is to be expected.

Another somewhat unique downside is the extra attention that is needed to orchestrate all the moving parts of a project since chances are you will be working across the three primary offices of NY, Dallas and Atlanta. Depending on the account and the position, you may not even see your 'base' office for the majority of the month. There are great advantages of the mobility, but it can get frustrating not having enough face time, on demand, with the people you need to move the project to the next step.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Break down the departmental barriers; teams needs to work together from the beginning and that needs to be factored into projects from day one. Don't underestimate the need for proper testing and prototyping, they may not come too cheap, but they are invaluable to a project's success.

I have been working at RMG Connect

    Pros

Great work environment and varied challenges. Genuinely enthusiastic team members who want to do right by the client. You get the opportunity to enjoy the variety of work you might find as a consultant, but won't have to continually learn the ropes over and over or "figure out" a new team.

    Cons

Morale is like a yo-yo here. People are over-reactive to small changes, which is exacerbated by the lack of communication from the top. If folks could stop being overly dramatic and concentrate of practical ways to improve their jobs and situations, things would run much more smoothly on a daily basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More transparency, pure and simple. Tell people things. Listen to feedback. Encourage discussion and productive commentary on the state of the business. Don't dictate change, encourage collective solutions.
