    Pros

Good colleagues, good enviroment. Looks good for your CV and very multicultural experience.

    Cons

Non information, no strategy outside UK. If you want to progress in your carreer you have to be british or willing to move there, otherwise just forget it. Decitions centralized and no power to other markets. They still think that UK is the center of the world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More comunication, empower people that makes good performance and not the ones you pick because they are your friends.

Current Employee - IT Solution Delivery in Corby, Northamptonshire, East Midlands, England (UK)

I have been working at RS Components full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Looks really good in the CV, makes you learn group dynamics like nowhere else.
Since every team is heavily micro-managed, your job is never boring - you'd never know if yesterday's guidelines are supported or denied today.

Benefit system is all right and you can easily spend a good 30 years there if you have the nerves of steel.

IT systems are diverse and ever-changing which gives a good opportunity to learn new technologies.

    Cons

By being a global company, its slogans sound really tempting - unfortunately the lack of cooperation and ignorance between departments makes the company look like a group of competing startups.

Personal development is nearly impossible unless you are part of the inner circle. Motivation does not exist unless you motivate yourself.

Office work provides a nice glance back to the '90s - if you ever wanted to know how it was like back them, this is your place.

IT solutions are often overridden / decided by the Middle Managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are too many middle-managers - usually managing (blocking) each other

If you enjoy micromanagement, a constantly changing business plan, and an overly complicated management structure...

I have been working at RS Components full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The underlying structure of this company could be very successful, great stock levels and warehousing with excellent product delivery and customer engagement.

    Cons

Way too many managers working against each other with workplace politics and no real solid business plan for the company. Upper regional management are erratic and have no real long term view. Management focus too heavily on just the business processes with no attention payed to what really matters. There is no local national GM, resulting in a business being steered in numerous different directions my various departmental heads.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rationalise national/regional management structure and appoint a GM to oversee the entire operation. Develop and implement a solid long term business plan, and stick to it!

    Pros

    Global company
Good atmosphere among employees and between management and employees

    Cons

development of ecommerce at the expense of employees
discrepancy between evaluation of employee engagement by management and reality

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at RS Components full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice bullet point on your CV and some good people
    Reasonably stable company
Cushy lifestyle once your in the "inner circle"

    Cons

You have to learn a new language and its called "RS speak"
Not many people have a real job and those who don't really have a real job spend hours making processes and system complex to justify their pretyend positions.
To many managers of managers, managing things that don't need managing
Have to kiss a lot of arse to progress and this is obvious by those talentless individuals being paid a lot of money to make life more difficult.everyone else
A global strategy that everyone pretends they understand but don't this includes senior managers
Stay to long and you will never get another job outside of Corby.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ian Mason, you will truly realise what is happening in your organisation if you were to become an "undercover boss" I am afraid your Senior Managers just BS you.

    Pros

good colleagues an some good managers

    Cons

Currently going through re-structuring so many good people have left due to bad management of change.

Some managers who bully staff remain in post as they 'deliver' . This is despite the new Ways of Working which include Respect and working Together etc... it's just all talk... no action .... very disappointing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put staff above profits and get rid of bully managers

    Pros

People were friendly and its a small team so you make mates

    Cons

Management is in another city and tries to micromanage. Not much options to move up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in more dynamic leaders rather then political management
