    Great people, everydays a bit different, there is a constant push for improvements and ability to do your best .

    Pros

    Not the most generous payers but a good overall package including pension scheme and flexible benefits once you've been there over a year

    Cons

    Constant threat of redundancy and not enough staff to do the job we have to do in many departments

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give staff more opportunity to have their say and increase holidays the longer you've been there - plus increase the 25 year service award and the travelling evening meal allowances- they've not increased for years!!!

    Pros

    A business with a great history that goes back to the start of insurance. Enormous passion amongst people for the customer and to try and do the right thing. People are very nice and work well in the community and allows a lot of flexibility.

    Cons

    There has been a tendency to focus on 'change programme' to make the business more up to date which either investing millions in computers or focussing on small things to reduce costs. Neither work. Needs a shake up to focus only on the customer to deliver value for the share holders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop thinking that investing millions in wasteful projects will help the company. Listen to your people and do lots of small incremental changes!

    Pros

    They care about their staff.
    Genuinely supportive if you are ambitious and managers will help you to get other internal jobs if you are looking to grow.
    If you want exposure, you can certainly get it and the execs will give you the time of the day if you genuinely have some ideas.
    Great people and can offer a good work life balance if that is what you want, also lot's of work to do if you want to be successful.
    I learned a lot and have recommended the place and brought people in.

    Cons

    For a 300 year old company there is too much "Short-term ism" and very tactical. They think about the problem now and run around like headless chickens solving the immediate issue and the the year after have the goldfish moment and re start again with the same issues. Systems can be be quite bad at the best of times.

    Please let us also do some strategic planning, and let's have a five year road map rather than just encourage people to only do tactical things.

    Stable, many chances of development and trainings oppotunities with less stress.

    Pros

    The people that work there are extremely nice and helpful. The hours are very reasonable. The facilities are brand new and include a gym and massage chairs.

    Cons

    The pay was subpar. The work can get repetitive if they don't move you around.

    More or less keep doing what you're doing. Great atmosphere.
