Pros
Employees treat each other with respect, like friends and family. I can count on my fellow co-workers to do their best.
Cons
The rate of change can be a little overwhelming at times. Sometimes that makes keeping up with information a little difficult.
Pros
Work is steady. Growing company. Good culture
Cons
middle management is weak and needs more experience
Advice to Senior Management
There are too many people are in positions of management that are there because they have seniority and not because they are good managers. Management training is a definite need.
Pros
The people are great. The environment is fairly casual and laid back.
The jobs are easy to perform.
Great company to work for if you only want a job, not a career.
Cons
Unbalanced and unfair treatment - sales team is unjustly compensated and treated far better than any other department, despite justified complaints.
Middle management is extremely weak - only allow for downward flow of communication.
Compensation for non-sales is far below fair market value. The lower salary was attributed to the culture "perks" that no longer exist but the gap in salary remains.
Advice to Senior Management
Management needs to back up the "core" values with actions, not words. The gap between senior management and front-line employees grows by the day with no intent to correct. Employees used to be valued assets... now they're viewed as disposable pieces. Employees no longer trust leadership for all the ignored feedback and broken promises.
Pros
Laid back atmosphere
Stable and successful
Cons
Too many incompetent Middle Managers
Too much growth too fast
Some groups can be forgotten in the push to the next big thing
Advice to Senior Management
Read the reviews on this site and really think about what they mean. Almost everyone cites the fading culture as and issue and several state that the promotion process is based on who you know rather than what you do. The answers are there, you just have to listen.
Pros
1) Laid back atmosphere; not at all stuffy
2) Competent employees for the most part
3) Great benefits starting on day one
Cons
1) You are expected to work EXTREMELY hard, to the point of being overworked
2) Work/Family balance is frowned upon; want you to eat, sleep, and breathe work
3) Lack of advancement opportunities
4) Management has started relying way too much on metrics; almost to the point of a call center operation
Advice to Senior Management
There's no secret to employees that Rackspace has changed in recent years. A lot of that is centered around a big push by newly-hired management to focus way too much on numbers and reports instead of letting employees do their jobs. If you focus too much on this and not nearly enough on the welfare of your employees, you are going to push your employees away. The CEO has done a great job... people below him, the newer people who have joined in the past year and a half or so in particular, are the ones that need to re-evaluate their management style.
Pros
1) Great senior leadership team who really cares about the people who work here
2) Competent and talented coworkers
3) My direct boss is a great person to work for
Cons
1) Limited advancement for many
2) Company is moving away from the things that attracted talent in the past
3) Sacrificed a lot for growth
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the people who work for you, all of them. There seems to be a recent trend of reinforcing the senior leadership team from outside of the company. It also seems that the decisions of these people is being relied on more than it probably should be. The people who work in the trenches understand many aspects of this business the best. Listen more to what they have to say.
Pros
Very good place to learn, or expand your knowledge. People work well together, and are happy to help if you need it.
Cons
none really, this company really is as good as everyone says.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing what you're doing
