Current Employee – been working at Radio One part-time for more than a year
Pros – Meet a lot of people who can help you get out of the part time positions.schedule is pretty flexible. you gain a lot of experience because you do work heavy hours in the warmer seasons. job enables you to network a lot.
Cons – Financially unstable. Hours are very unstable. there are heavy seasons and light seasons. You MUST have a second job if you live on your own. The pay is bad and the labor is a lot compared to the amount you get paid. hours are random. you never know the exact days or times. youre scheduled as events roll in so planning your outside life can be difficult.
Advice to Senior Management – promote from within. Dont try to guilt employees into staying at this job. the pay is horrible and no one can work this job forever. this is more a job you have while in school. dont expect employees to stay here when you cant offer them more.

Former Employee – worked at Radio One
Pros – Extremely casual workplace. You can wear almost anything and some do. There are a few good people here and you might get lucky to work with them but unfortunately their hands are tied with bureaucracy and you will be left with nothing but lip service.
Cons – Extremely unprofessional, expect no merit pay raises no matter how well your job is performed. They may promise you a raise to keep you quiet but in the end you will not see one due to "budget constraints". Extreme lack of passion and apathy from most employees. Constant budget cuts and incomprehensible hires will continue the downward spiral.
Advice to Senior Management – When you ask us to fill out one of those employee surveys, listen to the results and make positive changes.

Former Employee – worked at Radio One part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Always meeting new people, always something different everyday, felt like a mini-celebrity. Co-workers were great, creative, out-going people.
Cons – Pay was horrible; management was short-sighted, refusal to try something new and flat out incompetent. You have to be family, a friend, or a serious ass-kisser to get ahead at this company.
Advice to Senior Management – Think outside of the box; radio is a fracturing medium...in saying that, there is still room to carve out your own niche and audience. Stop doing the same thing that worked 25 years ago...

Current Employee – been working at Radio One full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Good team/family atmosphere. Anything is possible attitudes from most sales staff. No two days are alike.
Cons – Wishy-washy management. Good ol' boy network. Poor hiring decisions. Lack of female leadership; no women in sales management; no minority women in over 7 years.
Advice to Senior Management – Encourage and support women and minorities. Pay support staff better. Stop being intimidated by the corporate office.

Pros – Opportunity to work in a major market
Cons – No honest communication from management. No opportunity for growth. No top level talent in management. Personal agendas are promoted above the job tasks at hand.

Advice to Senior Management – Alfred needs to replace those people who came from AOL, stop them destroying his company. This needs to happen across the entire senior and mid level management.
