I worked at RadioShack full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Monthly bonus if you beat sales goal (rarely) goals are to high, commission not worth it, 1 week vacation able to buy an additional week, 5 days sick time, discount great on some items,

    Cons

Long hours, 5-6 days a week all 8-12 hour days, inventories your store and other stores until 2am usually opening your store the next morning so very little sleep, daily inventory check sales planner, visual guides, cleaning the whole store daily, mean customers, communication from upper management to store managers isn't very well, manager meetings monthly then returning to work after a long day at the meeting. Lack of training some of it is neat and helpful but I'm a hands on learner so I learned more from some of the customers compared to a computer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees and customers taking inventory and money lots of stuff on a managers plate plus they want you to be the leading person in sales in your store but you have 100 other things to do plus the random calls from the district manager telling you to do another thing and to send him pictures of it when your done. They want weekly pictures of your sales planner pictures after you set them up. Can be very stressful. Expectations are high but not equivalent to salary.

I worked at RadioShack full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very understandable organization that consistently tried to keep up with current trends and business models. With that being said, They were open to a lot of different possibilities and generally receptive to process improvement and feedback.

    Cons

Pay was always a struggle. It was understandable as a small box struggling retailer however inventory constraints coupled with the ever changing policies, procedures and performance made having operational procedures and a working routine very hard.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust and DEVELOP your teams. Focus on retention vs. Reprimanding. Put the time, effort and energy into creating a culture that is conducive to growth and a customer centric atmosphere.

    Cons

6 day work week for management and taking sales away from employees

5 day work week at same pay would have me and others. Why would you train employees with all the tools and training and just pay them what a burger flipper makes (no offence burger flippers).

I have been working at RadioShack full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Learn new technologies, fast paced environment, great discounts and benefits, laid back atmosphere, very rewarding, huge room for advancement.

    Cons

Compensation plan leaves much to be desired, commission only for wireless sales, long hours at times

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let me start off by saying that those who reviewed this company before must have ranked very low. This is a performance based company and you're employed as a salesperson. If you perform badly, then you will have a horrible experience. During my tenure with RadioShack I was consistently ranked among the top sales associates. I have enjoyed my experience with this company because if you keep up your sales, you will enjoy a very laid back atmosphere

Now, on the my advice for management.. You guys have got to re-vamp your compensation plan. At current, RadioShack only plays it's sales associates for wireless sales (beyond their base salary). This is why when you visit a RadioShack location looking for parts or accessories you are bombarded by over eager sales staff who want to check your plan's upgrade eligibility or push the latest iPhone down your throat. I mean, I get it.. They're trying to pay their bills.

But there was a time where RadioShack compensated it's sales staff fairly. It paid a percentage of all sales and warranties sold. At that time it was more fair and balanced, the "good old days" of RadioShack were the days when The Shack paid fairly. When the sales staff were eager to learn about components and parts because it paid them as much as phone activations.

The system is severely skewed. It's losing RadioShack both money and customers.
