I have been working at RadioShack

    Pros

I've made a lot of great friends working at radioshack for 5 years.
Becoming a manager within 6 months is extremely possible

    Cons

    Low pay
Intense conference calls with outrageous expectations
    Failing company
    120% markup on most items

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With company's like amazon, newegg, microcenter expanding. Having a radioshack begins to lose its purpose. Better ad-campaigns, and lowering prices to a reasonable amount would increase revenue.

I have been working at RadioShack

    Pros

fun environment, many different types of people. and knowledge that will help later on in life.

    Cons

Lack of oversight and authority, for the most part. the rules are what you make them and even if you break them you can not get in trouble unless you basically want to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Accountability, and reality of ability to manage, don't have a DM who manages 30 stores. hes one man that's like trying to catch a wwaterfall in a cup.

    I worked at RadioShack

    Pros

I got to work with small electronics and got to train people on how to make beautiful things.

    Cons

Work-life balance?Short sighted leadership. Obsession with only the bottom line.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to be able to look long term, and look at what got you to where you are. Stop chasing the paper tiger that is the next big thing, and work on making what you have better in a constructive way.

    I worked at RadioShack

    Pros

If you're good at sales, commission is the way to go.

    Cons

If you need an environment that keeps you learning constantly, this is not the right place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Serious work needs to be done. Most Radio Shacks that I visit run on terrible management. You would expect better from Radio Shack.

    I worked at RadioShack

    Pros

Commission based pay. Flexible scheduling. Fun environment. Some truly great interactions with customers.

    Cons

Commission based pay structure changed too frequently. Couldn't keep consistency in policies or procedures. Focus too much on selling certain products and never seemed to have the products customers demanded and by the time we started carrying those products we were behind the curve or they had lost their relevancy. The entire time I spent there, every year there was a steady decline in sales and no real solutions presented to fix issues. As a manager in a store I saw first hand the issues and somehow rather than fix the underlying issues, they would blame the associates and managers and say you weren't trying hard enough. When I first started for RadioShack, I loved my job but slowly everything changed and the company was completely different by the time my store closed. Now that they've filed for bankruptcy, my severance which I was told I would receive is on hold because upper management wants to take a majority of the 3 million dollars for themselves and all laid off employees are at the bottom of the list of people that still need to be compensated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice, this company is doomed. Sad to see a company with such great history go down but truth is they had so many opportunities to turn it around and just didn't listen to customers or the workers on what to do to make things better.

I have been working at RadioShack full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

There are some great people that work with the company, such as the verizon rep and samsung rep. They are informative and give you opportunities to work for them.

    Cons

Poor and unprofessional management. Pressure you to meet sales quota even though the company filed for bankruptcy and there isn't much business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise the pay rate for sales associates, and hire professional managers that won't push off work load on to sales associates.

    Pros

Get to learn about and a sell a variety of electronic products including TV's, MP3 players, smartphones, etc in addition to accessories. Most fellow employees were great to work with and knowledgeable about the products.

    Cons

Management is confrontational and out of touch with sales associates. Stressful practices and sales goals make it horrible to stay employed long term.
