    Pros

    benefits offered by company are competitive and generally fair, especially travel opportunities and growth / training seminars, courses and events / meetings for staff

    Cons

    benefits available could become more progressive and inclusive of other types of offerings to the employees / staff members

    Pros

    Engaging & generous CEO. Benefits & compensation structure competitive and fair. Nice, clean office overall with well provisioned lunch and break room facilities. Quiet room with comfy couches and computers provided for breaks.

    Cons

    Environment clique-ish with favoritism tendencies toward select few. Despite well intentions, management is detached, unapproachable, insensitive to employee morale, and not genuinely open to feedback nor open communication.

    Pros

    Co-workers are great, salary is competitive with incentives, very challenging and never a dull moment.

    Cons

    Huge learning curve for the product. Competing with the website because the fares are lower while at the same time supporting the website to offer great customer satisfaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire more people. Offer the same fares in the call center as the website. Web sales are driven through the call center.

    Pros

    Interesting job booking train travel all over Europe. Benefits and time-off no different than any other travel company.

    Cons

    Low salaries, very disorganized, management has no idea how to treat employees. The training program is a joke you're thrown on the phone with two weeks of reading their brochures. The HR department is useless. They bring interns from Europe and put them in the local YMCA/YWCA on their own. When I asked my manager if he thought I had a chance for a promotion into another department he told me there were enough women managers and he wanted to hire a man instead!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I would say to clean house but management is most of the problem.

    Pros

    The pay could be really great if you made your sales goals each month - the incentive scheme is usually pretty fair. If you're motivated and competitive, this job is for you. Benefits are very generous. The people who work there are really great -- it is like a family atmosphere. Great first job for someone fresh out of high school or college.

    Cons

    Open 7 days a week, mandatory overtime during the summer, often weekends are required as well. Some supervisors have bad attitudes or don't know what they're doing. Calls can be draining and require a lot of attention, and in return customers can often get angry. Not a lot of room to grow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus more on making Travel Consultants' jobs comfortable, as they are on the front line of making money for the company. Properly address supervisors who have bad attitudes or lack of knowledge.

    Pros

    5 week training and continuing check-ins, incentives and encouragement, travel bonuses offered, and good health insurance.

    Cons

    Some managers have bad attitudes, culture of competitiveness, constant monitoring and keeping tabs on you, difficult work with often angry customers.

    Call center supervisor quality standards, empathy, as opposed to the unwritten rule that you do not bother your supervisor unless absolutely necessary.

    Pros

    Pay is great, so are the benefits. Monthly incentives can be huge. You're surrounded by a great group of co-workers. The product is very interesting. Good training and support from higher ups. You can work as much overtime as you want during high season, so earning potential is unlimited.

    Cons

    There is a lot to learn and it can seem overwhelming. High season can be very stressful. You will have to work a few weekend days a month. There isn't a lot of room for advancement.

    I have been working at Rail Europe

    Pros

    This is an international company so employees are coming from all over the world, however executives are mainly from Europe. People at all levels are friendly and easy-going. Some employees have been with Rail Europe Inc for 20 years(?)and the turn over seems very low.
    They make most of their money on the internet and teams working for this channel seem to be pampered and get more recognition than others. Salaries are fair with a good health package and decent vacation time. You also get some free travel in Europe which is really nice.

    Cons

    The company HQ seems top heavy. there are a lot of managers with important titles and they are always in meetings but rarely in the cubicles. Lots of business processes that will drag you down.
    Call center is not staffed adequately and level of customer support is very low in high season.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Do not replace leadership by processes. Cut the fat in the executive team and hire more call center agents to take care of business.
