I worked at Rambus as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Great hands-on work as an intern. Lots of Benefits and Perks. Great employee atmosphere.

    Cons

Finance Department, while great people, tended to be set on their own ways on completing tasks.

I worked at Rambus full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Overall, good to great coworkers
Some interesting areas of R&D to develop
A shift away from the patent troll mentality (finally)
    Good facilities
Great benefits and low cost for them
    Good salaries

    Cons

No true corporate strategy ("increasing shareholder value" is NOT a corporate strategy)
Only focus is on cost cutting; minimal on development of new markets
Little value in the stock options
Current CEO is tactical but no strategic vision; tactical is needed but where is company going without a real strategy?
Numerous layoffs in last two years limiting moving company ahead
Poor to average management in middle layers (some areas have a strong good old boy network)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a real technology vision for the future
Make a strategy and go after it

I worked at Rambus full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Compensation, benefits and work-life balance.

    Cons

Director level management is clueless to be nice. No idea whatsoever on how to run a manufacturing facility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Close the doors now so that the bleeding stops. Stop losing money. Gain an understanding of the manufacturing process and educate yourselves on things like profit margin and true manufacturing costs. Put someone in charge of manfacturing that has some idea of what is going on.

I worked at Rambus as an intern

    Pros

Top talent, hard working and nice people to work with. Got to work on a variety of projects. Many exciting technologies in the works,

    Cons

Can't think of any downsides as far as I experienced them as an intern. For regular employees I have heard that politics and favoritism plays a role in advancement.

    Cons

They seem to be going through a bit of a dry patch at the moment. They went through a 15% staffing cut while I was there.

    Pros

Benefits are phenomenal, location is great. New product-centric business units run like up-beat startups with purpose. New CEO seems to have a good perspective on transitioning to a business services model.

    Cons

Kind of a downer to work for a licensing company that makes money primarily by patent infringement lawsuits. Patent troll culture is kind of ingrained in the middle management. Cost-cutting inevitably creates a "get out while you can" environment until the transition to a new business model turns the corner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Flatten the structure by a level. Flush the management structure to bring in product-centric folks to match the new business model. Change the company name, not just the logo.

Interesting projects, strict hiring practices ensure that most people you work with are very competent and some of the best in their respective fields.

    Pros

Great place for one's own development. Very great atmosphere at work and everyone is approachable. High scope to learn many new things .

    Cons

Small company so work load is more.
Few technologies are new and takes time to learn and implement on project.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should work on the way projects and teams are made. Some have very high qualified people whereas some had mid level people
