I worked at Rancho Solano Preparatory School

    Pros

Colleagues are mostly friendly and make the overall work environment enjoyable. Opportunity for younger and less experienced employees to get a good start.

    Cons

Compensation is not comparable to other schools in private or public sector. Management is disorganized and focused mainly on profitability instead of the quality of the product. Unplanned and unexpected change is the norm.

I worked at Rancho Solano Preparatory School full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The kids. The students are phenomenal.

    Cons

mis-Management and lack of leadership under the new head of school caused 17 of 18 middle school teachers to go elsewhere at the Ventura campus. No opportunity for personal or career growth. Better benefits available at other area schools. Teachers are not compensated as well as other schools in the area. High school enrollment consists of so-called "international" students but is primarily Chinese students who are not fluent in English. Enrollment in high school dropped to about 70 students. Parent company, Meritas, oblivious or does not care about changes and seems to only care about the bottom line.

I worked at Rancho Solano Preparatory School

    Pros

    Classroom autonomy, students and parents

    Cons

Nepotism, management demeaning towards employees, management represents teachers work as their own, only promotes and offers opportunities to the favored employees (best friends of management, sister-in-laws) no money given for classroom projects, teachers are expected to pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show a little respect for the wonderful teachers who really do love their jobs and their students and not use their kindness against them.
