I worked at Randalls part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Allows for you to develop skills with dealing with difficult people. Also a decent entry level job. Creates and instills a drive for success.

    Cons

Not a whole lot of mobility and low pay. Poor management and efficiency. Lack of ability to change the processes to better the business on the whole.

    Advice to Management

Quicker improvements to compensation, if someone offers more skills they should be compensated as so.

  2. Way too strict.

I have been working at Randalls part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Discounts on groceries (but only Randall's/Safeway brand.)

    Cons

Strict Uniform, dealing with customers who fell privileged

    Advice to Management

    Loosen up!

  3. Helpful (1)

    Pros

If you are a liar and a bully its a good place to work because your manager will protect you

    Cons

You will be pressured to do unethical things. The uniforms suck. They will not work with you on scheduling issues.

    Advice to Management

You don't have to be a liar and a bully to be an effective manager, quite the opposite. Your good employees are going to your competitors with a strong desire to put you out of business.

I have been working at Randalls full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Got hired for a Kings ransom...because my position has a 3 MONTH turnover rate

    Cons

Salaried management doesn't communicate effectively with each other, instructions from closing Store Director and opening Store Director regularly conflict. Store management has the expectation that every grocer is identical to Randalls/Safeway and as a result are very flaky on proper training for Department Managers. I've worked for Jewel-Osco, Meijer, Kroger...and Staples (yes the office supply chain) and Randalls/Safeway is very, very different. Randalls doesn't use CAO, ordering is 100% manual, Randalls is "not a cardboard company" so can goods, etc. have to be individually stocked on a shelf. Department performance is measured by "All In" case counting, the size of the truck is divided by by the overall shift length and number of crew. This is wildly inaccurate as it completely disregards other department functions (conditioning, ordering, etc.) and lunches (part timers are scheduled 8 hours flat, no 30 minute allotment for lunch.) So by default you are screwed, and the company '35 cases per hour" standard is extremely deceptive, if you got a three man crew (including yourself) a 540 case truck is considered too light. (650-1,000 cases is considered "normal" for a three man shift to do plus condition the ENTIRE store in 8 hours.) Overall part-time employee motivation and morale is poor, salaried management treat part-timers like chattel using "Full Metal Jacket" techniques, positive reinforcement is completely nonexistent and as a result part-timer reliability is very low with call offs and no shows frequent. Department Managers are talked down to and overall treated like toddlers, not as extensions of management, salaried tend to micromanage departments relegating Department Managers to overpaid clerks. Training is extremely incompetent for Department Managers, beyond the computer based training your period at a training store is just stocking, operations knowledge is crash coursed your final day. You will walk into your assignment learning that every Randalls store is rogue and operates differently per the Chief Store Director's whim, every store's extension system is different (God help you in finding someone to show you how to work the damn phone.) down day and order windows vary from store to store, etc.

    Advice to Management

Treat part-timers like human beings "All In" is egregiously flawed, individual case counting (which everybody else uses) can more accurately determine the performance strengths and weaknesses of a department, with struggling employees being easier to spot and troubleshoot. Department Managers are adults, and should be treated more inline as equals. Salaried Managers need to communicate with each other better and have a unified operations strategy for the store.

I worked at Randalls part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the people are nice. The job itself produces a very mild sense of accomplishment

    Cons

Management is unappreciative and hostile. Compensation and hours are inadequate.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your employees, pay them fair wages, and give them decent hours.

I worked at Randalls part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The store is aways empty, so you get a few clients only. Easy job and you work alone most of the time.

    Cons

You don't get any discounts on Starbucks products. The menagement of the company is awful, they don't know what's going on. Schedule do work is a mess.

I worked at Randalls part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The hours are fair, the pay is reasonable, and you do have opportunities to advance. Management can be fair based on how they like you. The work is simple if not a bit repetitive.

    Cons

The location determines who your fellow employees are. There is a HUGE gossip culture among people who have worked in entry positions their whole career. If you're at a bad location, it's near impossible to transfer. Safeway kind of treats the company like a step-child.

    Advice to Management

Help nip the gossip culture in the butt. Inform employees that talking about others behind their back will only lead to bad things.

I have been working at Randalls part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some nice co-workers, some nice customers, training.

    Cons

Too many hours, supervisors treat employees like trash, don't think that they have a live, call you on off days, never thank you for all your work, raises are a few cents, low pay, too much work, angry mean customers, they have employees do like 5 different jobs for same pay, and sometimes transfer them to cities far away without helping with gas. Do not care about their employees at all. Worst company to work form. No talking to coworkers, no breaks given, and lunch breaks are given until the last 30 minutes of the work time, so I worked 8 hours without eating anything. Not even good discounts.

    Advice to Management

Stop all the trash of trying to change things, your employees are completely unhappy and treated unethically. Employees deserve to be treated with respect and motivated for doing good things. Give better raises. Treat your employees how you want customers to be treated.
