Current Employee – been working at Rapid7 full-time
Pros – Rapid7’s culture is definitely top-notch with people who are truly passionate about their work across all departments. Everyone work extremely hard you can tell they are excited to come into work everyday and push themselves as well as the company to the next level. If you do your best work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, you will fit in well. My manager is invested in my own professional growth and development and offers the guidance I need to help me succeed. Opportunities to influence change are abundant. I have the chance to work on projects that are beyond my typical “job description.” High performers are able to take control of their careers and do what they wish with it.
Cons – If you’re looking for a slow-paced environment, this won’t be a good fit. You must be on top of your game.
Advice to Senior Management – Be as transparent as possible

Current Employee – been working at Rapid7 full-time for more than a year
Pros – As mentioned in the title, Rapid7 does a fantastic job of promoting individuality, I also have never known what work/life balance was until coming here (not to mention the UNLIMITED vacation) policy! It's very encouraging to work for and with people that are recognizing hard work and putting an emphasis on continued career growth.
Cons – I think we could do more promote camaraderie between the offices, sometimes I think we forget about our counterparts and would love to see more collaboration with the teams outside of Boston.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue with the transparency to the teams on the future of the company and goals, you all have done a great job on this to now. I think Summer hours are also a great idea! I would really like to continue to see the open door relationships with Execs and staff level employees, it makes us feel special.

Current Employee – been working at Rapid7 full-time for less than a year
Pros – You learn how to survive. They're transparent. Some talented people. The office location is nice. Usually an entry-level resume builder.
Cons – The environment on the sales for is not for everyone. Your coworkers are your competition; and management makes that known quickly with threats of being fired. Your day is spent making 160 + phone calls (when you're new, it's all cold calls). It's an environment that one would see in a college fraternity... techno music is blasted, footballs are tossed around (one person was hit in the head by a manager), obscenities from upper sales management directing at sales reps, favoritism, and cool-aid drinking. There are sales contests that harm office morale, instead of bringing the team together. There is a lot of turnover, as most people don't last to see their benefits set in. After a few months, it becomes clear that the sales pitch that you bought to accept the position was an empty promise. You learn it's a game of survival, and accept that one any given Friday, you could be called in a back office and handed your termination papers. It's happened to even the high billers. Or you simply leave on your own accord, not returning to the office after lunch. Seen that also. There is no security. As far as career growth goes, my experience tells me that it's hard to move out of sales.
Rapid7 is very image conscious. It prides itself in being the cool people in the industry. With the promises of material riches that are pitched to you in the interviews, comes an image conscious sales floor. How you look or how you fit in is important, as the office is political.
At the end of the day, the sales position is a glorified telemarketer. There is no need to wear a suit in the office or act like the work that one is doing is anything more impressive than it actually is. It's not like you're on Wall Street, though the environment at times is as chaotic and pressured. However, the minute that one figures out that the image is greater than the talk or promises, they are called to the other room to meet OZ.
Advice to Senior Management – Grow up.

Former Employee – worked at Rapid7 full-time for less than a year
Pros – Nice facilities, ample social activities, downtown location, lots of training for new recruits. I saw people here who clearly loved their jobs and were doing very well for themselves. But they all appeared to be the same very specific type of person -- aggressive, boisterous, kind of sneaky frat guys (and girls, I guess). The environment is exactly what you'd expect: club music blasting all day long, lots of uninventive nicknames, etc.
Cons – Very long hours (7am to at least 6pm -- and your overtime is counted in your base salary), low starting salary (chance to get raises, but it's tough to do so in the beginning when you're still adapting to the system), very homogeneous environment, tricky sales tactics (getting through to an exec by telling the secretary that you're her son, for example).
Advice to Senior Management – Turn down the music on the sales floor. Customers can hear it through the phone and are incredulous about the professionalism of the company. Be more up-front about the sales process and what it actually requires to get a raise during the interview; the reason you blow through so many sales reps is because the impression you give during the interview is nothing like what actually happens on the floor.

Current Employee – been working at Rapid7 full-time for more than a year
Pros – There are some smart people who work hard at the company. They allow for flexible work arrangements, and there is a great view from the office.
Cons – There's the "in" crowd and the "out" crowd. Very cliquey and an immature executive management group. Highly political environment. You don't get noticed or rewarded for doing a good job. It's the cheerleaders who blow their own horns who get recognized.
Advice to Senior Management – Grow up and reward employees for a job well done -- not a popularity contest.

Former Employee – worked at Rapid7 full-time for more than a year
Pros – 1. Time off policy.
2. There are some really talented people that work at R7 who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise with you.
3. Nice modern office spaces in easily accesible locations.
Cons – I have to agree with previous posters on the lack of professionalism at Rapid7 which was one of the deicing factors on my departure.
Management/ Executives do play favorites and it is very blatant who is "in" and who is "out" Often during my time there I would see employees who had excellent work ethic, professionalism and who always "got the job done” overlooked due to them not being overly flamboyant or what I would call juvenile in social situations or in their dealings with other co-workers.
It is not whether you did the work you are there for or if you go above and beyond, rather, if you show off and also prove you can “hang”
Again, I do agree with the confidentiality comment from previous posters. It is a big problem and office gossip runs rampant and it IS detrimental to culture and employee happiness. However, this problem continues to grow due to the very people promoting the company culture partaking and praising/ rewarding bad behavior with complete ignorance and denial to the situation and negative culture they are creating.
Finally, I would advise anyone who is thinking about joining R7 to make sure it really is a culture fit for them as well as a place where they see potential for growth.
Advice to Senior Management – Acknowledge employees who go above and beyond in their position. End all executive/ management gossip on employees whether it be personal lives or work related it is not professional. Do not reward or ignore bad behavior it sets examples for the entire company. Do not be in denial over the actual culture of the company versus what the "hopes" for culture are- Lead by example. Value all employees whether they are front desk or sales team.
