Former Employee – worked at Raytheon for more than 3 years
Pros – They don't seem to fire incompetent employees
Cons – Career advancement is slooooow unless you know someone
Advice to Senior Management – Don't stay in your office all of the time. verify what your directors tell you so you really know what is going on.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Raytheon full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Lost of opportunities within, lots of CBT training, great projects. Possibility of staying technical or climb up the ladder. If you within a project-oriented competency (developer, researcher, scientist, Q/A, PMP, etc) couldn't find a better place...
Cons – ... But if you are like me, a maintenance-oriented professional (DBAs, network/sys admins), well, it feels like trying to fit a round peg in a square hole. Also, the ever present chance that your project is cancelled due to government cuts.
Advice to Senior Management – Business models are not "one-size fit all". Not all your business are project based, hence don't treat them as such.
– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Raytheon full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – For someone who enjoys a process-focused environment with a lot of interesting projects and work, this is the place to be.
Cons – Company culture was very political so successful people tended to be those who had the best high connections, to the detriment of the business sometimes.
Advice to Senior Management – Go outside of your box in networking with employees to get good ideas and a feeling for how employees really feel.

Current Employee – been working at Raytheon full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – I like working here. It is challenging and rewarding. They have great contracts and many opportunities. I could not imagine working else where.
Cons – I really cannot write about any negatives. Sure sometimes folks have been on contracts where the clients can be unreasonable. But, you can always find another contract to work on
Advice to Senior Management – none

Current Employee – been working at Raytheon full-time for more than a year
Pros – In general Raytheon is a good company with good benefits. SW teams typically consist of very down to earth, intelligent, hard working individuals. Most of the leads and management are stern but understanding and easy to get a long with. The company has a strong work/life balance ethic and promotes healthy lifestyles and flexible work hours. There are also many different work opportunities available to employees so its not uncommon for employees to bounce around to different business groups and job titles if they choose.
Cons – As with most DODs in this time and age, the money is not stable. Often times, programs and projects will stop on short notice due to funding cuts. Layoffs and staffing reductions are a constant threat. Many employees find themselves being forced to bounce around to new tasks and projects on a month by month or even week by week basis because funding issues. Also be prepared for lots of process and documentation. SW engineers will spend as much time with process and documentation as they will coding (if not more time).

Former Employee – worked at Raytheon full-time for less than a year
Pros – Flexible schedule - 9/80, but anyone can flex their hours as long as you get 80 hours in each pay period.
Decent starting compensation - 20% raise over Lockheed Martin for same job grade.
Good benefits - good health insurance options.
Job security- when positions go away, the company helps find another job and keeps engineers on overhead as long as it takes.
Cons – Cube farm - huge rooms subdivided into aisles of 4 person cubicles.
Lack of leadership - unclear and inconsistent goals. Several programs are perpetually behind schedule and over budget.
No accountability - you can be a star and get lots done or coast... nobody notices or cares either way
Subpar merit increases - 2% even for high contributors... bad move.
Mediocre and overpriced food - food services provided by Eurest
Advice to Senior Management – Add performance incentives for individual contributors on a monthly or quarterly basis. Good ones (i.e. not 50$ gift cards, but stock options, bonus pay, extra vacation, etc.)
Merit increases should never be equal or less than inflation for good performance. Anything under 5-10% comes across as an insult and you will continue to drive away top young talent and primarily retain the average or unambitious.

Current Employee – been working at Raytheon full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Flexible work schedules. Telecommuting, 9/80 alternate schedule,
Lots of opportunity.
Internal functional groups and external program facing groups tend to be very separate but there are opportunities in both.
Cons – In a downturn for the last few years, cutting employees regularly.
Very hard to get promotions...but easy to get increases in responsibility.
Functional groups are very distributed, so your manager is likely to be in a different state, making you balance between supporting local priorities or your management priorities.
IT is highly outsourced.
