I have been working at Ready at Dawn Studios full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun studio to work at, good pay. And decent benefits. Quality bar for artwork is very high, and it's a great place to learn and enhance your artistic skill sets. Very ambitious team and projects. Scheduling is getting better, it was kind of rough at first.

    Cons

Expensive location to live, it would be nice if they paid full spousal and family benefits.

    Pros

If you are an artist you will get to create some of the best art in the industry. It can be stressful getting everything up to par but the directors definitely push for you to be the best you can be. There are artists from all over the world so you can learn from the best of the best while here. When you are not in crunch time it is a pretty relaxed studio with good work hours. 1.5hr lunch is nice and their core work hours are helpful for having a schedule that can work for most people.

    Cons

Lot of time seems to be wasted on minuscule tasks. Lots of time refining things that aren't really going to be seen. Upper management tries to control too many minor things and middle management can be a little disorganized causing you to need to rush on things because they did not assign tasks until hours before they need to be done. Some of this they do seem to be putting a real effort to try and fix.
When people are on crunch you can expect to work 60+ hours a week for a week to sometimes up to 1.5 months.
Salary is average, leaning on the lower end which can be tough living in such an expensive area.

Work Environment with a lot of Negative Energy

    Pros

They are located in Irvine in a nice community. Computer equipment is maintained well. Proximity to restaurants and malls is a plus. In the summer company events include a barbeque lunch.

    Cons

Art leadership is not experienced compared to other local studios. The art leadership does not use positive reinforcement, but instead uses negative tactics to motivate employees. Morning art reviews are unprofessional and conducted with negative art energy. Often an artist can wor two months without hearing positive feedback. This feedback is delivered in a negative manner and lacks professionalism. Often art tasks that shouldt ake two weeks take two months, due to inexperience and negative energy provided by art leadership. Salaries at this company are low, combined with higher than normal medical deductions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This company needs new art leadership that enjoys seeing employees grow and succeed with positive energy. They currently have the complete opposite. Art leadership currently uses negative strategies leading to a poor work atmosphere. Negative energy and feedback reduces production of artists on staff.

I worked at Ready at Dawn Studios

    Pros

Good benefits, AAA titles, nice building, free snacks, Nice location, good relationship with Sony, competent IT staff and Human Resources.

    Cons

Unprofessional and childish politics, undermining of work, lack of professional communication and critique. Promotions are generally based on time put into projects, with little consideration of leadership qualities within the person.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of your art director. You may not be aware, but many talented people have left the company because of him. Stop promoting people just because they put in 60+ hours a week.
