I worked at RealNetworks full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great folks to work with. No wonder why RealNetworks has produced more Entrepreneur than any other companies in Seattle.

    Cons

    Too late in product development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at RealNetworks full-time

    Pros

The people who work here are smart, fun and engaging. If you choose the right product team, work can be very fulfilling. The company culture is in the process of changing and becoming more transparent and technically relevant.

    Cons

RealNetworks has historically been involved in way too many businesses and lacks focus. There are lots of unpredictable changes that come from the upper tiers of management that seem like they are from left field. Compensation and benefits are good if you are on the right project and have a strong manager to advocate on your behalf.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower individuals at the lower tiers to help influence the direction of the company. Keep technical and product decisions and the lower levels and provide only guidance and goals at the higher levels.

I worked at RealNetworks full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Coworkers are mostly pleasant and truly willing to help on another
The view is great view from the new building and it's somewhat modern - open and inviting for collaboration
There are opportunities to learn new technologies as they're moving into the cloud/mobile environment

    Cons

The company had a new CEO with vision but Rob Glaser didn't approve as he seems to be wedded to RealPlayer for some reason. The company took 10 steps backwards when the old guard returned and they really don't get the new world of devices anywhere though they seem to think they do.

The new office building, though nice inside, is in a terrible location for commuters

The people who really cared about making good products and knowing how to do so have left, or are close to leaving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is clueless and deaf to advice so won't waste my time here
