I worked at Rearden Commerce full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

At its heyday, lots of cool technical problems to solve. Had its upside financially. Great potential to build an amazing product that's useful to a lot of companies.

The platform and architecture teams had good technical challenges. Systems integration, message-oriented, SaaS, NoSql, you name it, the technology was used.

    Cons

Engineering leadership was a revolving chair which caused a lot of churn in direction and philosophy. Quite a lot of "science projects" rather than focussing on solving business problems.

No focus on product quality, which meant poor user experience for early adopters.

I worked at Rearden Commerce full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Salary is decent. They do manage to hire some talented people along the way, even though those people don't last long.

    Cons

    Everything.
    - Horrible CEO
    - Toxic culture of fear that starts at the top and rolls all the way down
    - Everyone gets fired
    - Product and concept keeps changing because the vision is flawed. If it hasn't succeeded by now, it's not going to.
    - Lots of promises are made during the recruiting process that turn out to be just lies

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Board of Directors should really replace the CEO if they ever want any chance of having a successful company

I worked at Rearden Commerce full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The vision is compelling, there are some very good people trying be successful and the list of investors is high profile and impressive.

    Cons

The list is long! The CEO is a disaster with questionable ethics, emotional instability and a penchant for hyperbolic overstatement. The culture he has created has been called "fear and loathing" at Rearden" and lacks any semblance of cadence or execution. The turnover is excessive creating a severely damaged employment brand. The best advice is to skip this one...your career and life will be better for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace the CEO with a professional, ethical and emotionally mature leader who will build an inspirational culture and create a strategic plan for success. You might want to replace the BOD as well since they have enabled this disaster.

    Pros

    * Tries real hard to adapt to the current trends.
    * Relatively small team size that seem to work well together.
    * Engineering is very strong, smart, and competent. They solve a lot of hard problems.
    * Seems to survive the worst disasters.

    Cons

    * CEO seems to evade accountability and responsibility for his decisions.
    * Management spreads a demoralizing, cultural disease that will kill you from the inside out.
    * When they lay off people in the fall, more people appear in the spring.
    * They seem to magically survive while financially under water.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you cut the head of a cockroach, it may scatter wildly around for a week or so. But in the long run, it would be better for everyone.

I worked at Rearden Commerce full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Big vision and lots of great ideas.

    Cons

Poor execution and lack of any true understanding of what is possible, both from an product development and solution execution perspective has the company in a constant state of chaos. The legacy products drags them down and chasing the CEO's vision keeps them running at a feverish pace, though never really getting anywhere. Due to its management, Rearden will never have a great solution, but instead a bunch of marginal offerings.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on what you can do and do well and stop chasing a dream. Rearden will never be more than a travel app, and maybe that is enough, if the company simply manages its relationships, manages its burn and stops over committing and under delivering.

    Pros

Good investors - that's pretty much it........

    Cons

The CEO and Exec team are incompetent; and there is a pervasive lack of execution and accountability through the whole place. The turn over is very high. Good people are leaving in droves.

The Board of Directors (asleep??) should act swiftly and bring change at the top. That is a MUST

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    – Advice to the BOARD:- hire a CEO who can bring a professional and experienced management team that can actually execute on a plan (any plan!) -
