    Approves of CEO

I worked at Recon/Optical as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great technical experience, if you can work through the politics

    Cons

You have to work through the "silos" to get anything done.

    Advice to Management

Re-examine how all the parts of the operation are integrated - management has recognized and is taking action.

    No opinion of CEO

    I worked at Recon/Optical full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Making sure that the Soldiers get the best training with the best working equipment is the priority of the employees.

    Cons

Work, Work and work. ... but nobody in management looks out for you. The "good 'old boys club" gets the kudos & promotions.

    Advice to Management

See who is really doing all the hard work and make sure you tell them you appreciate their efforts.

    Pros

Work-life balance. OK benefits for a small company.

    Cons

No research, no innovation. Could do well investing in new product development or improvement to existing products.

    Advice to Management

Don't take too much risk. Invest in R&D

  5. Distinguished Company History, Best Days Behind It

    Pros

I was an interesting place to work on leading edge of military reconnaissance cameras. Had an 80+ year history of serving militaries around the world with the finest products available.

    Cons

Having to work within a framework of cutting corners, contract non-conformances, and not being responsive to customers.

    Advice to Management

It took a couple of decades, but the consistent "sharp" and risky practices ultimately undermined the customer base, deteriorated financial performance and caused the company to be sold off. This is a case study in how "crafty" management can improve the short-term results at the expense of long-term health of the organization. The "cheaters" won and got their bonuses. But the company disn't survive, regretably.
