Pros
In-depth research opens your eyes to what's going on outside your bubble. Great people to be around and generally a very positive environment. I am also a Muslim and they were more than happy to accomodate my praying needs that would occur throughout the working day. This said a lot to me about Red Cross as a workplace and how it values and treats its employees.
Cons
Some times you get disheartened because it feels like your work is being appreciated by the Red Cross team but not the general public
Pros
Fellow Red Crossers are amazing, wonderful people!
Cons
Low pay, constant restructuring, poor communication within
Pros
The opportunity to help save lives.
Cons
Intense work environment. Weekend work hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Sometimes pressure is too high to meet quotas.
Pros
Brand Spanking New Call center in three geographical areas
Bonus program
Benefits with 401k Match Program
Great Co-workers...amazing staff to work with
Cons
Management is clueless on leadership
Attendance Policy is not fair to most people
HR Staff is not aware of half of the things that management does
No respect for employees
No development or coaching for development
Advice to Senior Management
Get rid of the the new proprietary software, go back to caring about donors and customer service.
Treat Employees with more respect and dignity.
Pros
This company really puts the money where the donor expects it to go, to those in need. People who work here want to be here.
Cons
Company in flux. Infrastructure has gone through major changes in the last two years and many employees that lived through it are slowly coming on board. With change comes some confusion but they appear to be moving inthe right direction. The pay as expected is extremely low.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep communicating with your staff. Change is hard enough ao keep staff in the loop.
Pros
Great mission that one can truly stand behind
Good amount of paid time off
3rd most recognized brand in the world
Cons
Lack of adequate communication
Compensation is low even for non-profit
Management is out of touch with what is going on in the field
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the feedback of those in the field that have experience working for the organization first before setting "strategic" plans with the help of consultants that prove costly and ineffective
Pros
a job you can be proud of, good pay/benefits, tons of paid overtime
Cons
forced overtime, inflexible with scheduling, not a whole lot of room for growth, upper management is unreasonable and sometimes seems spiteful
Advice to Senior Management
Needs to work on personal skills. There are a lot of valid reasons for employees to need scheduling changes or time off, the "no fault" policy seems to be an "always at fault" policy. Put a little effort into retaining skilled employees.
Pros
VERY easy job, goals are easy to reach and the work itself is very easy. The pay is reasonable for an entry level job with no background experience and the benefits are quite good for both full and part time.
Cons
It is the most boring job I have ever worked. Management is quite inept, which makes dealing with the inefficient nature of the workplace a daily struggle. The overall sentiment management has towards blood donors and their decision to donate or not can be insulting and influences the recruiters to act in the same manner.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn to manage people, get ahold of the minor responsibilities given to you as managers and focus on training and guiding employees. Focus on developing your people instead of firing and rehiring constantly.
Pros
The Red Cross is a great company that is an overall happy place to work. We work hard, and we know it's for a good cause!
Cons
Whenever there is a disaster, the hours are very long. But I am fully aware that is necessary in this line of work!
Advice to Senior Management
There are some people who have been at the company for years who have a lot to give, but they haven't been given the chance to promote. It would be great if some people who are the "do-ers" would get a chance to be more vocal about changes.
Pros
The Red Cross has a very important social mission. Excellent work life balance. Decent benefits, although they stopped matching 401k's.
Cons
The organization is stagnant. There is significant reluctance to any form of change, as well as any new and innovative approaches to solving social problems. Poor pay.
