I worked at Red Gold part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Most employees are very friendly and genuine. The small town feel seeps into the company, which is nice. The company is stable, as tomatoes will always be necessary. Many chances for advancement. Random lunch potlucks are awesome.

    Cons

Very traditional company that is somewhat resistant to change. Since it's a family-owned business, family members in the company and those who are closest to them seem to get preferential treatment. HR rules are very strict (dress code, time keeping, what you can have in your cubicle/office, etc.).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open to change, whether that be old processes, adding more positions to growing departments, etc. Some senior managers do not have good reputations with the hourly employees.

    Pros

Great product. Great people. Family owned company. I enjoyed working for them and they valued my skills and compensated nicely for it.

    Cons

Recent change in management. Growth is challenging in certain departments. Compensation in certain departments is below norm. Communication is lacking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees and compensate them accordingly.

I have been working at Red Gold full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Red Gold is a class act company that gives very good benefits and really care about fellow co workers. It maybe the most comfortable company i have worked for.

    Cons

Pay. If you're looking for a big check every week this is not the place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

this is a top notch company and i love working here but the down side as a driver here is the inconsistency of pay. Benefits I understand is a big part of drivers pay. I don't think they are far from keeping every single driver that comes to work for RG. start the pay at .40 and no driver will make less then 750.00 gross a week (as long as that driver is working 5 days a week.) If you add great pay to the already fantastic benefits. there would be no turn over.

    I worked at Red Gold

    Pros

Great Salary if you live near the plants

    Cons

    Far away from anywhere
only 10 vacation days a year
    Long hours during pack season
forced to participate in party planning and had to drive up on the weekends, which is more than an hour commute...not realistic for those who don't live near the plan

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    more work/life balance/more vacation days

I worked at Red Gold full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Health benefits are second to no other central Indiana company. Some positions will permit employee creativity, but as rule most all work is very controlled and structured.

    Cons

Management leadership is often wish-washy. They are very slow to engage in new projects that vary from their historic comfort zone of operation. Worker safety is always touted as highly important, but the facts are only if it is basically free and does not interfere with production goals. This is not knock against CEO Reichart, but rather his underlings that often hide info from him.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mr. CEO you must please learn what is really happening around you at RG that will eventually lead to irreversible problems for both you and your company.

    I worked at Red Gold

    Pros

First class medical and 401K benefits.
Work can be interesting and sometimes fun.
Your shift passes quickly because you stay very busy.
You can buy Red Gold products discounted at cash sales.

    Cons

Beware of trusting HR at their word. Get it in writing!
Unless you just happen to fall into favor with the family there is limited opportunity for advancement.
Salaried pay is skewed too low to drive from Indy or Fishers, but can be decent for locals.
Long hours and limited days off during freshpack.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management must step forward out of the past and their "That's the way Red Gold has always done it." Be more accepting of new ideas from personnel.
