Pros
You really are a part of something at Red Hat and everyone is very passionate about their work.
Cons
There is no work life ballance and the company is very understaffed. There is so much work to do and everyone works a ton of hours.
Advice to Senior Management
Show some respect to the worker bees and get on board with more work life ballance.
Pros
Collaborative atmosphere for every position, value of family as the first priority in life, opportunity to affect the direction of the company from every level.
Cons
Formal internal training program is not quite mature yet so you have to constantly be on the lookout for outside opportunities of to develop yourself.
Pros
Great place to work with the best Linux engineers. Collaboration is a postive!
Cons
Poor Health and Dental Benefits.
Pros
High-growth company that offers a lot in the way of work-life balance and industry recognition. Well respected in tech industry, particularly with developer community.
Cons
Because of quick rise and numerous acquisitions, the culture is siloed and struggling to integrate the different pieces of the company. Proximity to North Carolina State University as "feeder school" limits employee diversity as many current employees interned at NC State and transitioned to Red Hat directly out of college. Rampant inequity among salaries, titles even in small departments.
Engineering drives company growth, strategy and vision. CEO doesn't seem to have much control or jurisdiction over business units
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to and value new employees' experiences, instead of using it against them in performance reviews. Promote equity and information-sharing among staff.
Pros
- cool people, people who are willing to share knowledge and information
- flexibility in giving suggestions and recommendations (but does not mean all will be considered)
- Additional days off for employees as company holidays
- Stock options given at a fixed % each year
Cons
- Many initiatives and projects are corporate driven
- Lack of processes
- Plenty of manual workaround required
- Have to deal with inefficient systems and applications
- Lack of business planning
Advice to Senior Management
- Long term business planning required
- Listen to the other regions
- Make process improvements and be serious about it
- Reduce duplicate resources working on same project/task
Pros
Surrounded by talented and intelligent workers. The ability to learn and grow and opportunities provided could be unparalleled. The people you work with and around are amazing.
Cons
The culture is slowly being stripped away, if not already gone. It seems there is some expectation that we are a military instalment, and should follow blindly as such.
Advice to Senior Management
You need to start listening to the people doing the job. We may just be grunts , but we're good at what we do.
Pros
Smart people, pretty well organized, and supportive of employees. There is good work to do and you really can feel like you are changing the world.
Cons
Their growth creates challenges with communication and with conflicting assignments and priorities. Some folks (mid-level managers) are rather taken with themselves. Pay could definitely be better.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a breath, consolidate, and coordinate. You've got good values and an important mission, but it won't all be done in a day.
Pros
Red Hat is full of some of the smartest people in the industry who are very passionate about their work. Its a great place to learn and to get a lot of excellent experience.
Cons
Pay is a bit low. I received a 33% raise when I left RHT.
Advice to Senior Management
Stock is great, but higher salary is better.
Pros
A very large amount of extremely smart and knowledgeable people that create the best in the world, cutting edge technologies.
Cons
People's work is not being recognized. The feeling is that there is a lack of organization and discipline in the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest much more in good people and their development in the company. Otherwise they will just leave. It will be a shame, as this is a very good company.
Pros
Self motivated and a lot of freedom
Cons
Team work needs to be improved
Advice to Senior Management
Senior manager should care more about employees
