Former Employee – worked at Red Robin full-time for more than a year
Pros – Benefits. Manager meal once per shift, ipads used for training and waits at the door. Other than that, not much nice to say here. I have been a high performing General Manager for over 15 years and this was the worst management position I ever had!
Cons – Very threatening environment. A lot of "if this doesn't happen" we will do this! Everything is Stacked and Ranked every week. You are either Green (get to keep you job), yellow (need to be concerned about your job or red (need to be looking for new job). You have to send schedules to the regional manager, I mean really! There is absolutely no autonomy to make any decisions. Bonus is unrealistic (each restaurant has to increase guest counts by 700 guest per period in order to even be eligible for bonus). so, your budget is a one size fits all! This is completely unrealistic and only about 30-40 restaurants are hitting this metric and then they will not hit the following year. There are over 400 restaurants company wide and only about 10% max bonus. Unheard of! They also roll out a new menu every month. it not only confuses team members, but keeps the management team in a constant state of too much to do and not enough time to do it. they measure labor by productivity and the productivity model only works when the managers cook, prep and clean. We spend more time in an hourly positions than we do actually managing things like food quality, guest satisfaction and so forth. So, if you want to be a mindless robot, then this is the place for you!
Advice to Senior Management – You need to become a GM driven company! I should never have to send my schedules to my regional manager! Paint the white lines and get out of our way and let us lead. That is what you hired us to do!

Former Employee – worked at Red Robin
Pros – Family-friendly restaurant, not open too late (10 or 11 PM), flexible with hours, give a pretty good discount on food for employees
Cons – way too many birthday songs to memorize, not allowed to be standing around for even a minute, tedious/time-consumming sidework
Advice to Senior Management – treat your employees a little better, and they will treat the guests better. happy employees = happy guests. and clean the bird suit more often--it can get very stinky!

Current Employee – been working at Red Robin part-time for less than a year
Pros – money in your pocket every night, fun co-workers, good food/50% off shift day meals
Cons – Unprofessional and rude managers, talk down to you, threaten to fire you constantly. hover over you during your shift hoping to get you in trouble. I was written up for ringing in something wrong when I WAS STILL NEW. My managers have pulled me into the office and made me cry twice. One manager tried to fire me last weekend over a mistake the kitchen made, not even a mistake on MY part. I have contacted HR and I think the other employees that have or had experienced the issues I have should too.
Advice to Senior Management – Live by your "core values". You should not be a manager if you are unproffessional and rude. They way my managers are trying to terminate me is disgusting. You will lose YOUR job the way you are trying to make your employees lose THEIR jobs. It's unacceptable.

Cons – The double shifts are killers

Former Employee – worked at Red Robin part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – I was a server for a few years while I went to college. Some might disagree, but I like the "core values" gimmick, the commitment to "STAR" service and periodic training refreshers. For the most part people were easy to get along with and very willing to cover shifts for you. After coming from a bar-style restaurant, I really liked the happier family friendly environment. The managers were extremely friendly.
Cons – Screaming children are an occasional problem. Even when they are well behaved and cute, they still have a tendency to spill cheerios and fries all over the floor. Management had a tendency to make what I would consider poor hiring choices, but that's pretty common for restaurants I would say. The main thing that made working there a pain was that people just don't tip like they do at "fine dining" restaurants. I've heard servers complain about tips everywhere I've been, but seriously, people regularly left like 12% tips for no reason. Maybe they just can't do math.

Current Employee – been working at Red Robin full-time for more than a year
Pros – Benefits, the people you work with, they gave an 18 year old a chance
Cons – They give you a ton of sidework as a server, they are corporate jerks, when we were opening the restaurant they were throwing tons and tons of food away and it never occured to them to have us eat it? Taste it? We can't sell it if we haven't eaten it.
Advice to Senior Management – You guys need to relax about the rules.

Former Employee – worked at Red Robin part-time for more than a year
Pros – *Easy to learn the menu, and Fridays bring a lot of customers into the restaurant.
*Quick training system in place.
Cons – *Low tips
*High expectations
*High stress
*Low pay
*They need to work on getting more money into the pockets of the servers, and put a little less in their own pockets... I really did not like working there.
Advice to Senior Management – Offer more money to the servers base pay. People don't tip well when they are ordering burgers for dinner... I really did not like working there.

Former Employee – worked at Red Robin part-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Flexibility with hours, and avaliability. Easy to request days off. Going home with cash everyday is a plus. That's all I can think of.
Cons – Chaotic work environment. After 5 years the company has made many cuts which has impacted quality, morale, and benefits. Screaming kids everywhere, everything is dirty all the time. Management team does not staff kitchen properly to save hours so they can get their bonus. This makes the kitchen crash, guests get upset, and you lose tips. No respect or communication from management.
Advice to Senior Management – Respect your staff and they will respect you.
