I have been working at RedMane Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

RedMane is doing some very cool work in R&D. If you have good ideas they give you the space to try them on. Either in a project or in R&D. The project work is interesting and meaningful. Management cares about people. Hours are flexible. Good place to come everyday.

    Cons

projects starting at the same time as people doesn't always work out

    Advice to Management

    Communicate lots

I have been working at RedMane Technology full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Care deeply about people. Small company atmosphere. Implement systems that make a real difference to people. Technology focus is becoming a lot more diversified, with some fairly high tech components, including mobility.

    Cons

Until recently they had sold too much work and were not focusing enough on staff training and development. This has turned around in the last year or so and has become a huge focus.

    Advice to Management

Don't grow so fast you stop acting like a small company.

I have been working at RedMane Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are a small company where you will always be a person and never be a number. The company cares more than any previous employer about my well being. That says a lot because I have worked for a lot of small caring companies. Also being a small company there are a lot of opportunities for employees to grow into different technologies or roles on projects.

    Cons

For the past 2 years the company has been growing much faster than it had during its previous 15 years, this has negative impacts for employees. Specifically training and mentoring have been neglected, and also on the HR side the hiring process has become more frustrating. These problems are very high priorities for the company and something that the management is disappointed with itself about.

    Advice to Management

Keep focused on training and mentoring improvements. Consider a telecommuting option for Chicago office employees.

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep your employees in the loop, when you can. Especially the future opportunities that may lie ahead.

You if want to lay off people then why recruit them.

I worked at RedMane Technology (More than a year)

    Pros

Convenient location for commute from downtown Chicago and suburbs. The Office space is old but problems with buildings get resolved quickly. Most developers are knowledgeable and friendly. Diversity is a big positive part of the employee base. Life-work balance is supported by some middle tier leaders. Pay is decent but seems like there is no pay structure.

    Cons

Top management doesn't care about employees. There is no training for current employees, long hours, travel and no communication from managers about company's plans for future projects and work. Management team is made up of several clicks and favoritism is shown on the basis of family relationship - nepotism is blooming. Most projects are in government sector and work with unpopular and old technology. As a developer I didn't see any future for my career.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to realize that people are company's best assets. You are loosing good people, and will continue to do so until you stop promoting nepotism and start supporting your employees. Hire new people, add new technology, be open to new ideas, I felt like your management team is stuck in the last century. Redmane is a small company with mentality of a small company. If you want to grow you need to start thinking and acting like a big company.

    Pros

    Pay is decent. Very diverse.

    Cons

-Commute is not so great -working on a dead tech. Old fashioned way of development -the environment is extremely cliquey -no long term goals -management don't really care about the lower employees

    Advice to Management

-be less strict and trust your employees -be open to changes

I worked at RedMane Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work environment is nice. Office layout is nice and it is a comfortable environment from a physical perspective. Location is great near O'Hare. Good place to start your career but son't stay too long. Pay is fair to good. Benefits are very good.

    Cons

Very limited scope for moving into different technologies. Focus is mostly on a single technology that is not widely used. Only clients are state government. Travel can be excessive depending on your role. The talk is about caring for employee careers, but that's where it ends. You are nothing more than an hourly billable resource, except if you are part of the click.

    Advice to Management

Start taking your employees seriously, even those not in the click. You have some good people. Treat them accordingly. You should encourage people to show initiative. The 'open door' policy only works if you take what you hear seriously and don't just pretend to be interested. That needs to change.
